Coming Soon From Rio Grande Games "Power Grid Deluxe"

power grid deluxe Rio Grande Games has announced a great new edition of Friedemann Friese's Power Grid.  I have to admit this edition sounds extremely appealing to me.  Because it is not just a bigger version of the same thing with blinged out components but actually offers something cool and new to go along with the blinged out components. They have not stated whether this new version of the game will have compatibility with the multitude of expansion maps that were released for the original power grid.  Included with this game is not just a gorgeous board featuring all of North America and Europe both of which look great but it also has abandoned the awful paper money that was the bane of many Power Grid players existence.  Instead they have elected to use plastic coins which should be much more pleasant in the end and should be able to hold up better than many game currencies. They have also redone the power plant cards in a bit more lively colors and not necessarily colored like Soviet Russia was the backdrop for every depiction of a power plant.  While still very industrial looking they do at least have something other than dark gray skies surrounding each plant.  In addition it appears that they have refreshed the mix of plants in the game. With dedicated spots on the board for the power plant market and additional power plants in the futures market on the Europe side of the board this should offer more choices and a much more logical layout for new players.  They have replaced the trash energy resource with natural gas which is a slightly more realistic resource though It would have been interesting to have seen both in the game.  In addition they are including a two player variant which hopefully offers more than the robot expansion did.  With a slated release around October 16th this should be something many of us can find under our trees for Christmas this year. Below is the description offered by the publisher: Power Grid Deluxe is based on the highly successful game “Power Grid”. However, it is not simply the same game with bigger, better and more beautiful components, but rather a version made especially for the 10th anniversary. Everything is bigger: the double-sided game board now offers all of North America and all of Europe, rather than just the USA and Germany. The customized wooden parts offer actual generators for the players and different shapes for the resources, among them natural gas instead of garbage. All the power plants have been changed and we added new resource refill cards to make refilling the resource table easier. The game is still Power Grid, with all the exciting auctions, the nerve-racking resource speculations, complex city networks and the tight competition among the players - all the way to the nail-biting end, as several players vie for the win. This is a box filled with good and proven parts in updated, new shapes. We wish you a lot of fun!
