Fantasy Flight Announces Marvel Champions

August 1, 2019 - 8:01pm

Fantasy Flight announces a new living card game: Marvel Champions. Marvel Champions is a cooperative game for 1-4 players. Each player takes the roles of an iconic hero from the Marvel universe.  Each hero has their own customizable deck of 40-50 cards representing their powers, tools, and allies. The players team their heroes up to defeat the villain, who is not controlled by any of the other players.  Each villain has their own deck of cards also, complete with evil schemes and encounter cards that represents their powers, tools, minions and more. The villain activates once for each hero in play.

Marvel Champions: The Card Game Core Set will give players everything they need to jump into the living card game.  The core set includes five hero decks: Iron Man, She-Hulk, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Spider Man.  It also includes three villain decks: Ultron, Klaw, and Rhino. New Marvel Champions expansions are expected every month. Unlike a collectible game, there's no chase for rare cards—you'll find a full playset of each card in every expansion, and every expansion is labeled so you will know exactly what you are getting inside.  This will allow you to customize how you expand your collection with new heroes, scenarios, and more. Every core box of Marvel Champions includes every card available in the core set.  You will have everything you need to customize the hero decks provided.

One of the interesting aspects of each hero deck is the double-sided identity cards: one side for the hero, and one side for the alter-ego. Some abilities are only available while the hero identity is face up. Heroes with their alter-ego face up will not be able to attack villains directly, but heroes can heal and access unique abilities in their alter-ego form.  To bolster a hero’s abilities, players can play ally, upgrade, event, and support cards from their hands. Allies can thwart and attack the villain on their own terms, events are powerful one-time effects, while supports and upgrades stay on the field to assist heroes in battle! Each hero also has an obligation card.  These cards are shuffled into the villains encounter deck, and risk occurring at the most inopportune time, forcing the hero to turn their attention away from the villain and take actions to address their obligation.

Marvel Champions: The Card Game Core Set includes over 350 cards, 100 tokens, five hit point trackers, and more, and is available for pre-order now.  Visit the Fantasy Flight website to learn more about Marvel Champions.
