The Creativity Hub, most notably the makers of
Rory's Story Cubes, has decided that now is the right time to re-brand themselves as Hub Games. The reason for this switch is that they have decided to pivot from the education sphere into more of a focus on tabletop games. This was signaled by the release of two games last year,
Untold: Adventures Await and
Blank, so they are already thinking in that direction. Their goal for these games will be to create ones that "
foster discussion between players at the table and beyond; games with heart. By encouraging self-expression through play and having gamers reflect on the choices they make, Hub Games looks to push past the idea of games being simple entertainment". Look for new and unique games to be coming from Hub Games in the future, and we hope they achieve the goal they are aiming for. The full press release is below.
Belfast: January 22nd, 2018 - The Creativity Hub becomes Hub Games
The Creativity Hub, best known for being the original publishers of the award-winning Rory’s Story Cubes® and The Extraordinaires® Design Studio, are becoming Hub Games, effective immediately. With a new determination to create incredible play experiences for all kinds of gamers, the company is shifting their focus exclusively to the world of tabletop gaming. Following the sale of Rory’s Story Cubes® to Asmodee and the release of both UntoldTM: Adventures Await and BlankTM in 2017, co-founder and director Anita Murphy felt that now was the right time for the change.
“Our new name brings Games firmly into our future, while the Hub continues the connections with the people we’ve worked with,” says Anita. “2017 was about change, and we’ve made a conscious decision to shift away from the educational market and move towards tabletop games. With the new year, we’re setting out with a new name that better represents where we want to go in 2018 and beyond.”
Rory O’Connor, co-founder and director, added: “I’ve always pictured a Hub as a central stop-of point on your journey elsewhere - like an airport. This is how I see our role as a games publisher. We want to become the primary stop-of point for people looking for memorable game experiences with new friends and familiar faces. We realize we’re a small company based in Northern Ireland. With this in mind, we’re grateful to have developed relationships with many incredible designers, distributors and retailers around the world. It’s with the help of this network we can create games with heart and bring them to a global audience."
“We want the logo to be recognizable on the front of our new games,” said Anita. “The hex shape of the game tile represents the connections we make when we play together. The anti-clockwise tilt reflects us doing things slightly odd and different, and if you look closely, you’ll spot a little heart in the games.”
Hub Games aims to publish games that foster discussion between players at the table and beyond; games with heart. By encouraging self-expression through play and having gamers reflect on the choices they make, Hub Games looks to push past the idea of games being simple entertainment. "There is a space in the tabletop world for games that give us more,” said Michael Fox, Hub Games’ Community Manager. “We still aim to create incredible games, but if players want to scratch the surface and look a bit deeper, they’ll fnd reasoning behind every decision in what we produce. We want players to think about what they’re playing, and for those choices they make in game to stay with them long after they leave the table.”
Hub Games will make their first appearance at the Nuremberg Toy Fair at the end of January, at Stand F-26 in Hall 10.
