Intensify Forward Firepower! The Onager-class Star Destroyer is coming to Star Wars: Armada

November 29, 2019 - 8:03pm

When you hear the phrase Star Destroyer, most often you think of the Victory or Imperial-class Star Destroyers as they were the backbone of the Imperial Navy, and the ones most often seen on screen. But there is another that doesn't get as much attention, and that is the Onager-class Star Destroyer, the latest ship to be added to the Star Wars: Armada lineup.

The Onager-class Star Destroyer has a unique shape that sets it apart from other Star Destroyers, but it also has another aspect that makes it unique and dangerous. That aspect would be a pair of cannons that run over half the length of the ship, providing it with unprecedented firepower and range. These cannons are fired through an new ignition attack which extends the range of the attack, but also delays the attack itself. How both of those are achieved is that at the end of the Onager-class ship's activation you will place a targeting token at a set range within it's firing arc. How far away you can place that token is determined by what upgrades you equip on the ship. Then at the start of the ship's next attack phase you have to perform an ignition attack, but instead of measuring range from the ship, you measure range from the targeting token, effectively extending the range of your attack beyond most normal weapons. Add to this upgrades that allow you to turn in place to line up a shot, destroy upgrades to ships you damage, or launch an ignition attack in one turn, and you have a powerful new ship to add to your lineup.

You can look for this expansion to hit retailers in the last quarter of 2019, but in the mean time you can check out the ship and its upgrades on the FFG website.
