Zoinks! Two Scooby Doo board games are releasing in the first half of 2020
Scooby Doo!: Escape from the Haunted Mansion
The Op is launching a new line of IP-themed escape room board games called Coded Chronicles. These games will utilize a code-revealing mechanic integrated with storylines from populat intellectual property franchises. The first entry in the Coded Chronicles series is Scooby Doo: Escape from the Haunted Mansion. Players take on the roles of Mystery, Inc., trying to solve the mystery of Lady Fairmont's ghost. Fred, Daphne, Shaggy, Velma, and Scooby each has their own narrative booklet. Clues are hidden on the game board and finding them will provide details of the mystery, as well as allow you to open secret envelopes for more information.
Scooby Doo: Escape from the Haunted Mansion is designed by Jay Cormier, Sen-Foong Lim, and Kami Mandell, with art from Rob Lundy and Rick Hutchinson. It will release this spring.
Scooby Doo!: Betrayal at Mystery Mansion
If you want even more Scooby Doo boardgaming, Avalon Hill is releasing a reskin of Betrayal at House on the Hill with a Scooby Doo theme. Players take on the role of Fred, Daphne, Shaggy, Velma, and Scooby to delve into 25 haunts based on episodes and movies of the franchise. Just like in Betrayal at House on the Hill, players will explore the haunted mansion through modular tiles, finding clues until one of them becomes the monster and the game shifts from cooperative to one vs. all.
Betrayal at Mystery Mansion is designed by Banana Chan, Noah Cohen, Rob Daviau, and Brian Neff, and is for 3-5 players. The game is scheduled to release in May 2020.
The important takeaway is both publishers wisely chose not to include Scrappy Doo.
