Welcome to the Dark Side

The Villainous series is joining the Empire in Ravensburger's upcoming release Star Wars Villainous: Power of the Dark Side. Villainous sees each player take on the role of a movie villain and attempt to accomplish their individual thematic goal. The Star Wars version comes with 5 villains, and can accommodate 2-4 players. You can be Darth Vader, Asajj Ventress, Kylo Ren, Moff Gideon, or General Grievous. Each character has their own player board with different locations and a sculpted pawn. On your turn, you move your pawn to a different location and take the actions available at that location. So each player is racing to be the first to accomplish their individual goal. The game's player interaction comes from one of those potential actions, which is to draw two cards from an opponent's Fate deck and choose one to play. Each character's Fate deck contains heroes and events that will inhibit the villains from accomplishing their goal, possibly by blocking some of the action icons at a location, making them unusuable until the hero is defeated.

Villainous is an expansive series. There are six Villainous titles featuring traditional Disney/Pixar animated villains, two releases in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now the upcoming Star Wars endeavor. The Disney/Pixar series uses individual Fate decks, like the Star Wars version, while the Marvel line uses a communal Fate deck. Star Wars Villainous introduces a new mechanism in the form of vehicles. Vehicles can be in a villain's draw deck or in their Fate deck. Vehicles can provide villains with new moves to perform on their turn or can add a twist to get in their way, depending on which deck they come from. Another thing to set Star Wars Villainous apart from its predecessors is a new manufacturing process for the player pawns that will create a splash of secondary color that subtley randomizes the look of the pawns across different copies of the game.

Star Wars Villainous: Power of the Dark Side is scheduled for a retail release this summer.
