Upcoming escape room game puts you in The Overlook Hotel from The Shining
The Op is bringing some horror to the escape room game genre, just in time for the 40th anniversary of the Stanley Kubrik classic, The Shining. In The Shining: Escape from Overlook Hotel, players take on the roles of Wendy and Danny Torrance trying to escape from the clutches of the evil hotel, while avoiding the axe-wielding Jack Torrance. The game is designed by Jay Cormier and Sen-Foong Lim and scheduled to release this fall.
This is the second entry in The Op's Coded Chronicles line of escape rooms in a box, that debuted with Scobby Doo: Escape from the Haunted Mansion. This system allows any number of players to work together to unlock clues and solve puzzles by using a unique code revealing mechanic.
The Shining: Escape from Overlook Hotel is not the only game based on this intellectual property. Propserro Hall is publishing a 3-5 player game called The Shining in 2020. If you want even more chances to visit the Overlook Hotel, a print-and-play game called The Shining won a microgame design contest in 1998, had Stephen King as a playtester, and is available here.
