Try to survive the steampunk, frozen apocalypse in Frostpunk
Frostpunk, the city-building survival video game is getting a board game adaptation that currently is on Kickstarter. This project is the first Kickstarter campaign of Glass Cannon Unplugged, a newly formed endeavor focused on board game adaptations of video games. The team involved also worked on This War of Mine, Nemesis, and Lords of Hellas.
In Frostpunk: The Board Game, one to four players lead a post-apocalyptic steampunk city trying to survive an ice age. The scenario-based game requires players to manage various facets of their settlement to eke out existence. Each game consists of 12 days, and each day will have an event players must contend with. The welfare of their citizenry is measured in tracks for hope, discontent, hunger, and sickness. Players can build buildings, research technology, and explore the surrounding frostlands. These actions will be influenced by changing weather and require heat from the generator. The expansive design aims to create a modular, sandbox system that serves as the spine of a book for memorable, narrative gameplay.
Frostpunk is designed by Adam Kwapiński. The game is scheduled to deliver in October 2021. For more details, check out the Kickstarter campaign, which runs through October 28th at 10:00 pm EDT.
