Trek deeper into the world of Scythe with Stonemaier Games' Expeditions

February 1, 2023 - 10:45pm

I don’t know about you, but the first time I saw the cover to Stonemaier Games title Scythe I immediately wanted to know more about that world. And it seems that Stonemaier Games owner/publisher Jamey Stegmaier wants you to know more too.

Expeditions, a sequel to the game Scythe by designer Jamey Stegmaier and artist Jakub Rozalski sees players investigating a crashed meteor near the Tunguska River in Siberia which has awoken an ancient corruption. Hoping to find artifacts, achieve glory, and overcome challenges, heroes from the war have funded their own expeditions to investigate the crash site.

On their turn, players will move their action token to cover one of the three possible actions (move, play, or gather) and then execute the remaining, uncovered actions. Or you can take the “refresh” action in order to regain all the cards you have previously played.  You play cards to gain the benefit at the top of the card but if you place a specific worker on the card you also get the special action listed on it as well.

Like Scythe, players will be competing to be the first to place four “glory” tokens on a board of seven different categories. Once a player places their fourth token, each player gets one final turn before end game scoring occurs and the player with the most points is the winner.

Expeditions supports 1-5 players, ages 14+, with an estimated play time of 60 – 90 minutes. You can pre-order the game at the Stonemaier Games web store until Feb 15th. Pre-orders are estimated to be fulfilled in July with August seeing both a GenCon release followed by a retail store release.

Where to start? Where to start? Hmm... I like to play games? Yeah, that's brilliant. <delete><delete><delete> I'll try again later.
