Schmidt Spiele brings us the Batman we deserve in Chaos in Gotham City
I don’t know about you, but when I think of Batman, I immediately associate him with trick-taking games. You don’t? Well lucky for me publisher Schmidt Spiele does. In Chaos in Gotham City, by Hadara and Crown of Emara designer Benjamin Schwer and artist Wollinsky, players are classic Batman villains (think The Joker, Two-Face, Catwoman, etc…) who are trying to cause as much chaos in Gotham as possible while avoiding encountering Batman.
Each round, players will be dealt 6-10 cards, based on player count. These cards consist of four suits with each suit having cards numbered 1-10 that either depicts Bruce Wayne or Batman. A location card is revealed and players are trying to gain control of that location by winning the round. In addition, a card is turned over from the top of the un-dealt cards and the suit of that card determines which suit is trump.
The game plays like your standard trick-taking game and at the end of the round, players will add up the values of the Batman cards they’ve collect and the player that has the most will not score their chaos points that round. You will play a number of rounds equal to the number of players and whichever player has the most chaos points at the end of the game is the winner.
Chaos in Gotham City supports 2-6 players, ages 8+, with an estimated playtime of 30 minutes.
