Schmidt Spiele brings its Masterworks to Mille Fiori

January 31, 2023 - 5:19pm

In 2021, German publisher Schmidt Spiele released Mille Fiori by designer Dr. Reiner Knizia and artist Stephen Lorenz. In Mille Fiori (Italian for “A Thousand Flowers”), players take on the role of glass manufacturers, managing every aspect of the production of stained glass works in order to make the biggest profit possible. Mille Fiori is a light card drafting game in which players use cards to place clear diamonds over the many scoring spaces on the board.

Schmidt Spiele has announced the release of the Mille Fiori: Die Meisterwerke expansion. Included is a new expansion board that not only lengthens the sea route from the base game but also introduces the Council tile track that gives you various rewards, such as victory points, ship movement, masterwork cards, or Dogaressa cards.

In addition to the new board, there are three new types of cards introduced. Playing Doge (or "Chief Magistrate") cards can get you victory points, allow you to claim the first player marker, or move your pawn up the council track. Dogaressa (or “Wife of the Doge”) cards give you one-time special abilities, such as being able to play a second card on your turn, claiming victory points, or claiming masterworks. Finally, masterworks are played to a 3x3 grid in front of you and act as your “shop window” which can grant you victory points at the end of the game.

Mille Fiori supports 2-4 players, ages 10+, with an estimate playtime of 90 minutes. Mille Fiori: Die Meisterwerke is scheduled to be released in Germany in the first half of 2023. As of this writing there was no release date set for an English printing.

Where to start? Where to start? Hmm... I like to play games? Yeah, that's brilliant. <delete><delete><delete> I'll try again later.
