Our Family Plays Games making a media splash
The Fitch family, Starla and Miklos (Mik) along with their teenage son Grant, comprises Our Family Plays Games, a YouTube channel dedicated to bringing more diversity to the boardgame hobby and sharing fun games for the family. This year they have become contributors to the Dice Tower. They regularly appear on Boardgame Breakfast, have started creating Dice Tower reviews (here is their DT review for Five Tribes), and joined Tom and Zee for a Top 10 Family Games during the Dice Tower Summer Spectacular.
Over the summer, their message has expanded beyond boardgame media and gained a broader reach. On June 26, 2020, Our Family Plays Games was interviewed on Good Morning America. The segment covers their journey into boardgames, why boardgames are great for families, and recommends a family game, a strategy game, and a vacation game. A few weeks later, Our Family Plays Games was interviewed on The African American Network (TAAN) TV. They discuss why they became boardgame content creators and some modern games to try for those only familiar with classics like Monopoly. The next day, Our Family Plays Games was featured in an NBC news article on the growth potential for the boardgame hobby to appeal to a more diverse audience, as well as how far the hobby has to go with inclusion. These mainstream media segments are great for bringing the joy of boardgames to more people, so kudos to Our Family Plays Games!
Their videos are entertaining, informative, and heartfelt. Check out the Our Family Plays Games YouTube channel!
