New Azul with more appetizing pieces
Plan B Games has announced a new Limited Edition of Azul, under their Next Move Games imprint. Azul: Master Chocolatier will include the same gameplay as the original Azul, only with a visual overhaul to set the game in a chocolate factory. The square tiles are redesigned to look like chocolates. The factory boards will be double-sided. One side will feature the exact same gameplay as the original Azul. The other side has a special effect that modifies play in one way or another.
Azul is a tile drafting game, where players are trying to fill in patterns on their individual boards. When players draft, they take all of the tiles of the same color from the selected location, sliding the rest to a central pool, which the players also can draft from. Players are awarded points based on how well they fill in their boards, and drafted tiles that are unused at the end of the round will lead to negative points.
Azul: Master Chocolatier is designed by Michael Kiesling, with art by Nina Allen and Chris Quilliams. It is scheduled for release at Essen 2022. Azul has had four main games in the series, including the original Azul (2017), Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra (2018), Azul: Summer Pavilion (2019), and Azul: Queen's Garden (2021).
