More details surface about Terra Mystica: Age of Innovations
Capstone Games has shared a little more information about the upcoming release of Terra Mystica: Age of Innovations. This is a standalone sequel to the original Terra Mystica, and has been described as “Terra Mystica on steroids”, offering a heavier game. And it is certainly a lot heavier than Terra Nova by designer Andreas Faul, which debuted at this year’s Essen Spiel. Terra Nova offers a simpler and more streamlined version of the original.
Age of Innovation was originally planned for first-quarter 2021, but pandemic and shipping delays had the release slip to late 2021, then 2022, and now, according to Capstone, we should be seeing the game in 2023. A lengthy discussion on the standalone title can be found here on BGG.
Terra Mystica by Jens Drögemüller and Helge Ostertag is an area control euro game with asymmetric fantasy races, originally published in 2012, and was a Kennerspiel des Jahres recommended title. Terra Mystica saw 2 expansions, Fire and Ice in 2014 and Merchants of the Seas in 2019. The title also inspired an award winning space-themed variant, Gaia Project in 2017.
