Mighty Boards announces Dávid Turczi's Excavation Earth on KS
“In Excavation Earth, you lead a race of alien explorers on their quest to excavate human artifacts and curate the ultimate art collection, and most importantly cash in big!”
Mighty Boards, the makers of Petrichor, Vengeance and Posthuman, has a Kickstarter Campaign ongoing for Excavation Earth, a heavy economic euro game from designers Gordon Calleja (Posthuman), Dávid Turczi (Anachrony), and Wai Yee (Pocket Dragon). In Excavation Earth, players take on the role of an alien species, exploring a now uninhabited earth, in search of ancient artifacts. These artifacts can be collected and shown in galleries, or sold. Of course, artifacts need to be sold at an appropriate market, to interested buyers, and the most popular items will fetch the highest prices. Of course, there exists a black market if you are looking for a shortcut.
Excavation Earth is driven by card play, and players discard an appropriate card to execute each of the 7 available actions. Alien explorers need to travel to the correct locations on earth to excavate artifacts or visit the markets. Markets are populated by colored meeples, the buyers, and each color represents the interests of that buyer. As the colored meeples are taken from their pools and added to the markets, they reflect the popularity of their artifact type. When selling artifacts, the number of interested meeples and the popularity of that color artifact translate into price. The buyer meeples rotate from the market to the command center and back to the supply, making the economics of the game highly dynamic. Or, if the market is not favorable towards your particular artifacts at the moment, a black market is rumored to exist. Players also place colored worker cubes, initially to guard their gallery, then later to act as sellers in the market, and eventually in the command center to influence the politics.
Excavation Earth comes with Popularity, Mothership, Main Game, and 4 Race Boards. Also included are 90 artifact tokens, 60 action cards, 12 travel cards, 17 buyer cards, 4 command cards, credit and initiative tokens. Player pieces include 12 heat transfer wooden explorers, 88 wooden cubes, and 50 wooden buyers. Upgrades in the Kickstarter edition already include double layer boards, varied wooden buyer shapes, a 5th race and a solo mode, with more coming every day. The Kickstarter Campaign for Excavation Earth continues through April 29, and the game is expected to deliver in November 2020.
