Leder Games brings Cole Wehrle's Oath: Chronicles of Empire and Exile to Kickstarter
The designer, publisher, and artist behind 2018's hit Root have a follow-up game on Kickstarter. Oath: Chronicles of Empire and Exile is a political war game for 1-6 players where player decisions impact future games. While that sounds like a legacy game, there is no component destruction and the game is fully resettable. This is an in-house production by Leder Games, designed by Cole Wehrle, with art by Kyle Ferrin.
One player takes on the role of the Chancellor, while the others are Exiles. Exile players can be brought into the fold of the establishment by the Chancellor by becoming Citizens. Each roles generally plays the same way. Players play cards from six suits into a shared tableau representing three geographic zones, as well as to their individual player board. There are minor differences, for example the Chancellor gets one fewer action on their turn. Exile players win the game by fulfilling goal cards called Visions. The Chancellor or Citizens win by maintaining control over the establishment and having the most prestige at the end of the game. How one session of the game ends will impact which player is the Chancellor and the available card pool for the next game.
The Kickstarter has a single pledge level for $90. That pledge gets you the base game plus two add-ons: (1) a journal to chronicle your sessions, and (2) component updgrades to metal coins and resin magic tokens. Both of these add-ons will be available in the future for additional cost.
