Knizia classic rethemed as Pollen

October 2, 2022 - 1:55pm

Prolific game designer Reiner Knizia constantly has his games rethemed as they’re reintroduced to a newer audience. Samurai: The Card Game is the latest of his games to be rethemed … this time as Pollen. In Pollen, 2-4 players try to create a lush garden of blooms to attract pollinators to their flowers, in an abstract tile laying game. This incarnation is published by BoardGameTables.com, is suited to players aged 11+, and plays in about 45 minutes.

Players plants flowers by placing a garden card next to at least one pollinator token. As they form a line with these garden cards, a pollinator token is drawn and placed on new lines. Flowers are pollinated when a pollinator token is encircled by flowers and attracts them to a player’s garden. Players then add up all the values on flower cards that match the pollinator. When any type of scoring token runs out, or all garden cards are placed, the game ends and the winner is the player with the highest score.

Pollen features artwork by Beth Sobel and is expected to be launched on Kickstarter sometime in Fall of 2022.
