The Game of the Year Nominees Are. . .

The nominations for the Game of the Year, the Juego de Año, in Spain have been announced.  All games published for the first time in Spain are eligible for the award.  The nominations this year include:

  • Kingdom Builder, designed by Donald X. Vaccarino and published by Devir;

  • MicroMacro: Crime City, designed by Johannes Sich and published by SD Games;

  • Paleo, designed by Peter Rustemeyer and published by Devir;

  • The Red Cathedral, designed by Sheila Santos and Israel Cendredo, also published by Devir; and, 

  • Unmatched, designed by Rob Daviau, Craig Van Ness, Justin Jacobsen, and JR Honeycutt, published by TCG Factory.

In addition to the nominations, there is a list of 16 recommended games put forward by the jury as well:

  • Amanecer Rojo (Red Rising), designed by Jamey Stegmaier and Alexander Schmidt and published by Maldito Games;

  • Calico, designed by Kevin Russ and published by Maldito Games;

  • El dilema del rey (The King’s Dilemma), designed by Hjalmar Hach and Lorenzo Silva, published by Horrible Guild – Asmodee;

  • High Society, designed by Reiner Knizia and published by SD Games;

  • Iwari, designed by Michael Schacht and published by TCG Factory;

  • Las Ruinas Perdidas de Arnak (Lost Ruins of Arnak), designed by Min & Elwen, published by Devir;

  • Lucky Numbers, designed by Michael Schacht and published by Tranjis Games;

  • Maharajá,  designed by Wolfgang Kramer and Michael Kiesling, published by Maldito Games;

  • Marvel United, designed by Andrea Chiarvesio and Eric M. Lang, published by  CMON – Asmodee;

  • My City, designed by Reiner Knizia and published by Devir;

  • Pistas cruzadas (Cross Clues),  designed by Grégory Grard and published by  Maldito Games;

  • Renature, designed by Wolfgang Kramer & Michael Kiesling, and published by  Ediciones MasQueOca;

  • The Key, designed by Thomas Sing, published by Haba;

  • Unánimo, designed by Ora & Theo Coster, and published by Zacatrus! & Brain Picnic;

  • Western Legends, designed by Hervé Lemaître, published by Maldito Games; and,

  • Yedo, designed by Thomas Vande Ginste and Wolf Plancke, published by TCG Factory.
