Explore space through a variable tech tree in Beyond the Sun
Rio Grande Games has announced Beyond the Sun, a space exploration, technology advancement, and resource management game for two to four players. Each player takes on the role of a faction venturing into deep space as Earth dies.
Players share a communal technology tree that determines the available actions. The technology tree is populated by cards that are drawn only when the technology becomes available to research. This means from game to game the tech tree will populate differently, and that players will not know how technology advancements will evolve over the course of the game. Technology cards come in four different levels and four different types. An advanced technology must share a type with the technology that leads to it on the tech tree paths. Space exploration is implemented by a deck of system cards, with planets that can be colonized. Additional variability comes from the game's event deck. Beyond the Sun does not have a set number of rounds. Instead, the game ends once players collectively claim a certain number of achievements.
Beyond the Sun is designed by Dennis K. Chan, with art by Franz Vohwinkel. It is scheduled to release later in 2020.
