Escape: Roll and Write on KS from Queen Games
Queen Games and designer Sebastian Schwarz have started a Kickstarter Campaign for Escape: Roll & Write. The original Escape: The Curse of the Temple (2012) by Kristian Amundsen Østby has become a modern classic of board gaming. Curse involved frantic, real time, rolling of dice, trying to collect specific symbols to allow your explorer to move within the temple. Black mask symbols locked dice until your fellow players would unlock them for you, and a relentless timer drove players to hit key locations in the temple and … escape.
In Escape: Roll & Write, the familiar dice and symbols still exist. This time, players roll their dice in a push your luck manner, keeping or discarding dice in sets of 2. Black mask symbols will lock dice on the communal adventure sheet for 3 turns. Discarded dice go into a common pool, available for the other players to use. Dice symbols still allow players to move their explorer on their own temple sheet, collecting bonuses and gems from rooms explored. The common pool of dice can be used by players off-turn to fill the treasure portion of their sheet, earning powerful bonus actions for the group. The game ends once a certain number of gems are collected by the group, however in true Escape fashion, players must reach the exit by this final turn.
Escape: Roll & Write comes with 100 individual player Temple Sheets in two different layouts, 25 communal Adventure Sheets in 2 layouts, and 10 dice. The Kickstarter Campaign also offers new Bonus Chambers and a new Queenie Box, containing Queenies 11-16 for the original Escape: The Curse of the Temple. Backers can opt to purchase many other Queen titles, including the 2nd edition Escape: Big Box. The Kickstarter Campaign for Escape: Roll & Write continues through June 1, and the game is expected to deliver in November 2020.
