Days of Wonder brings on the Heat
Days of Wonder has announced Heat: Pedal to the Metal by designers Asger Harding Granerud and Daniel Skjold Pedersen. Heat is a card-driven racing game featuring elements of hand management and deck building. The most important feature of Heat is your deck of Heat Cards, which start as a stack on your player board. Heat Cards represent the health of your engine, and certain actions in the game are paid for by putting those limited Heat Cards into your discard pile. Certain penalties incurred also require moving Heat Cards to your discard. If you cannot pay a Heat card, you will spin out.
Game play involves first changing gears, which determines the number of cards you must play on your turn. Cards have values which add up to create your speed, and as in other racing games, navigating curves in the track too quickly can incur a penalty. Low gears and some other abilities allow the player to “cool down”, which means you get to move those Heat Cards in your hand back to your stack on the player board. First to cross the finish line wins!
Heat: Pedal to the Metal is scheduled for early release at Essen Spiel this October, then widespread sale later in the Fall.
