Contra the Board Game coming from Blacklist Games

Blacklist Games is bringing video game nostalgia to your tabletop with the upcoming cooperative Contra the Board Game. One to four players will take on the role of commandos trying to take down the Red Falcon Army. Designed by Adam and Brady Sadler, the game utilizes the Modular Deck System (MDS) their other designs (Street Masters, Brook City, and Altar Quest) have become known for. This system assigns a unique deck to each player character, stage, and enemy type. This allows the variables to be modulating, increasing replayability, all while maintaining thematic cohesion. Contra the Board Game contains four commandos, four enemy types, and four stages. 

Each round of Contra the Board game consists of player actions, the enemy turn, and then a stage event. Players can play as many cards from their hand as they choose. Retained cards will provide a benefit to the players, so playing every card is not always the best move. Combat is resolved through dice rolls that vary based on the weapon being used. One side of the custom six-sided dice is a critical success that will "explode" and immediately add an extra die to the attack. The extra die can also explode from a critical success! Players will progress through the stage and eventually take on the boss enemy. If the stage deck ever runs out, the players lose, which thematically ties to the frenetic action of the video game. 

Contra the Board Game is available for pre-order on the Blacklist Games website, and is scheduled to arrive in the first half of 2021.
