Gen Con 2021 Fantasy Flight Games In-Flight Report

Fantasy Flight Games held their annual In-Flight Report at Gen Con 2021 and made a number of surprise announcements. You can watch the session over on their YouTube channel or read below for a summary of what transpired.

Ghosts of Greyhaven is an upcoming expansion for the new Descent: Legends of the Dark game which is a side-story that can be played as part of Act I in the campaign or played as a standalone adventure.

KeyForge is going on hiatus with a planned relaunch, along with a digital version, in the future. They showed a sneak peek of the sixth set, Winds of Change, which introduces new batch cards and mechanisms as well as the eleventh house, the Compacts of Ekwidon. This mercantile house portrays themes of trade and exchange. Other houses in the set are Brobnar, Sanctum, Saurians, Star Alliance, Unfathomable, and Mars.

Arkham Horror: The Card Game will have a standalone scenario set in different time periods released in Q1 of 2022. In Machinations Through Time, investigators will travel between the 1890s, 1920s, and the 1950s as they attempt to solve a mystery of disappearing scientists through time. This scenario will support epic multiplayer mode where teams can work together to solve the chronological caper. The Dunwich Legacy cycle will also be repackaged with the same treatment as the Edge of the Earth expansion with a Dunwich Legacy Investigator Expansion (featuring solely player cards) and Dunwich Legacy Campaign Expansion (consisting of encounter and campaign cards).

The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game gets an adrenaline injection in the form of a Revised Core Set which supports up to 4 players straight out of the box. There will also be new content in the box, but Fantasy Flight Games promise to have these available as print-and-play cards for players who already own these sets. They plan to release this refreshing revamp of their original LCG in early 2022. They also plan to release some of the game’s cycles in the same way the Player and Campaign Expansion system is being done for Arkham Horror LCG. That’s not all though … they also announced a standalone scenario pack consisting of The Oath and The Caves of Nibin-Dûm, which had previously been released as part of the Limited Collector’s Edition two-player starter set which will be available in Q1 of 2022.

The Vision makes his debut as an expansion for the Marvel Champions: The Card Game. They also revealed more details on the next big box expansion, Marvel Champsions: The Card Game – Sinister Motives, which adds Ghost Spider (better known as Spider-Gwen) and Miles Morales Spider-Man as playable characters. Expect threats from Sandman, Venom, and the Sinister Six. They also announced that subsequent hero set expansions would revolve around the Spider-verse but there would also be some surprises mixed in.

Twilight Imperium’s 25th anniversary will be celebrated with the release of two graphic novels from CMON which headlines talents such as Ron Marz (Silver Surfer, Green Lantern, Witchblade), Andy Lanning (Guardians of the Galaxy, Annihilation), Dan Abnett (Horusy Heresy), and more. A graphic novel series set in the Android universe will also be done through CMON.

One of the biggest complaints about Star Wars: Outer Rim is that there wasn’t enough content despite it being a good game. The Star Wars : Outer Rim – Unfinished Business expansion plans to rectify that in the near future … though they provided no additional details on what that entails.
