Between Two Councils of Mad King Targaryen
Fantasy Flight Games has announced a new game for three to six players with the Game of Thrones intellectual property setting. In A Game of Thrones: B'twixt, players will accumulate power into two councils, one to each of their sides. Each player shares the council to their left with their neighbor on the left and shares the council to their right with their neighbor on the right. At the end of the game, each player has the power of whichever of their two councils has the lesser amount of power. The player with the most power wins. If two players have the same value for their lesser council, then they compare values for their higher council.
Each round, an ally is revealed for the players to bid on. Players bid using a hand of influence cards that have a value and possibly an effect to resolve when played. Bidding goes around the table until each player has passed, and then the player that has bid the most influence wins the ally as well as a power token with a secret value of 1, 2, or 3. This secret value is not revealed until the end of the game. That player then chooses in which of their two councils to place the ally and in which to place the power token. The ally cards also have abilities that can trigger when claimed, each round, or affect end game scoring.
Players must balance the power of their two councils as well as work to undermine their opponents councils, through the abilities on the influence and ally cards. A Game of Thrones B'Twixt is scheduled for a retail release later this year.
