Veteran video game developer Vic Davis announced on his blog that he and his studio, Cryptic Comet, will be retiring from video game development and transitioning to board games. Best known for turn-based strategy games like Armageddon Empires and Solium Infernum, Davis expects to find familiar territory in board game development.

“I’m leaving the digital space and moving over to the card board arena where I hope my design skills can shine. It’s a natural transition since my games have all been very board-game like. I hope that has been part of their charm.”

Davis is hitting the ground running. His first board game, a 2-4 player game where players vie for influence in the fantasy city of Vance, is already in development and he promises more information to come in future blog posts.

“It involves a card and dice system, screw you cards played face down and an end of round secret bidding phase for important cards from a special deck.”

Check out his blog post for more details. We’ll be keeping an eye on this new voice in the board game industry.
