In 1968, George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead’s cinematic release enthralled moviegoers and gave people something new to be afraid of. Now, 50 years later, the zombies have hewn their own sub-genre with a large number of games based on this theme.
CMON Ltd., who owe a large part of their success to their first game, Zombicide, have acquired the license from Living Dead Media to create branded board games and associated play accessories based on the Night of the Living Dead property. New games which CMON Ltd. plan to produce are officially approved by Image Ten who are the original production company and custodians of the iconic film.
“Night of the Living Dead is the quintessential zombie movie. It’s an honor to work with such a property, and we are excited to be able to partner with Living Dead Media and Image Ten on creating a game worthy of the movie’s legacy.” – Geoff Skinner, CMON VP of Media Development [source]
CMON Ltd. will be partnering with Evolution USA LLC who manage the licensing and brand for Living Dead Media. They had previously partnered on the Netflix series, Narcos, which will see release on November 23rd.
CEO of Living Dead Media, Steve Walsh, said that a portion of profits from the sale of these products will be donated to the George A. Romero Foundation (GARF) in honor of George A. Romero.
The announcement to create games based on Night of the Living Dead coincides with CMON Ltd.’s opening of their new L.A. office. For more details read the news release on the CMON website.

Now on Kickstarter is a card game that is ready to put the BRAINS! in battle. In Ready Set Battle Zombies by Mark Kiedrowski, players are either the zombies or the human. The humans must defend against the zombie attacks, with military strength and the zombies must try to make bigger and better attacks each turn, and try to turn opponent’s cards into zombies.
Players use character cards to attack others, and upgrades to improve those characters. Instants can be played at any time. Gold tokens are received from gold cards and missions, and the gold tokens are used to buy other cards. The winner is the player that gets their opponent’s life to zero.
The core set comes with the zombie deck and the human deck, including 18 character cards, 20 starter cards, 3 instant cards, 18 gold cards, 15 upgrade cards, 2 elite cards, and 10 mission cards, as well as, tokens and dice. The expansion is anime-themed, that allows for healing and deal damage over time, as well as 2 secret elite cards. It includes 9 character cards, 9 upgrade cards, 10 starter cards and 9 gold cards, as well as tokens.
More information about the Kickstarter can be found here.
“Gemma believes in Science. She’d love to come up with something one day, like LSD or DDT or PVC. So she spends her time experimenting, and for sure, if she keeps trying, she too will finally end up cracking a new molecule that can blow your mind out, kill or be used for building pipelines. In the meantime, green gas is oozing out of her test tubes. She probably won’t get high on it Saturday night though, the smell is so bad it could wake up the dead.”
This is the kind of carnage you will face in this small card game that is now on Kickstarter. A plague of zombies has fallen upon us! Each player is taken it as their responsibility to restart life by creating a base, where they will recruit like minded people to survive the Horde. After a draft phase, you’ll state playing cards in front of you. Character that belong to four factions: Punks, Hippies, Survivalists and Capitalists. These factions never see eye to eye. So you team of survivors will always be different, with their different still sets that will help you fight zombies or other players, get more cards or search for more survivors. And try not to have the cards at the end of a turn, as you will become the tastiest snack for the Zombies!
This is a quick playing, fun, tongue and cheek, tactical card game that has quite a few variants to make it easy or hardcore. You’ll be puzzling over your characters skills, which to use and which not to. Who will defend your base and who is expendable. As well as some take that elements that throw a spanner in the works, making it a struggle to survive while attempting to impose their ways of life for the new world to come… Be the first to reach 7 points to win the game. But beware, the Horde can also win. So work together to keep their numbers down.
You can check out more of the Kickstarter here. Running until the 7th of November.
“Things are far from good in Farmingdale. Some kind of virus or poison is turning ordinary people into vicious, zombie-like killers. You must lead citizens and emerging heroes to halt the Zeds’ advances by (re)killing them, attempt to coordinate the discovery of a cure, and preserve as much of the area and as many of its inhabitants as possible. There’s no time to lose…. “
Dawn of the Zeds: Third Edition is a cooperative States of Siege™ board game on Kickstarter now. Players take the role of heroes who must defend the town of Farmingdale and its five outlying villages from the invading zombies. The heroes get some much-needed help from the locals (some armed, some even heroic) they are protecting and together you must work together to prevent the Zeds (zombies) from reaching the town center or causing so much chaos in and around Farmingdale that the government abandons you completely.
Originally, this game from Victory Point Games was solitaire only but in this third edition, gameplay focus is just as much on co-op play. Now, 1-5 courageous humans can spend 90-120 minutes kicking some zombie butt and learning to come together as a group to save the awesome small town of Farmingdale.
During the Kickstarter campaign, backers can choose between three pledge levels: One for the expansion pack set, one for only the base game, and finally one with all of the content included. The reprint of Dawn of the Zeds: Third Edition includes all original gameplay stretch goals (except for No Brains Mode, which can be downloaded for free). There are no stretch goals for the expansions.
Three expansions available
In addition to the base game, three expansions are launching, each with unique, fun content that expands the game even further.
The first expansion pack – Stepping Forward – features four new characters (three heroes and one heroic civilian), who are stepping forward, ready to confront the Zeds.
The second expansion pack – New Player Blues – is more of a bummer for the plucky survivors, featuring 13 new Outbreak!, Level Event and Fate cards that expanded the story and increase the danger and excitement. Luckily, a new hero – “Bouncing” Betty Bolivar also arrives in the pack.
The third and final expansion pack – Rumors and Rails – features two new game systems. The first makes the refugees even more helpful with special rumor chits that provide heroes with useful items. The second features two trains, which allow the heroes to move in new ways and act as strategic pieces on the game board.

Zombicide: Green Horde: No Rest for the Wicked is an expansion to Zombicide: Green Horde that supports 1-6 players and puts you up against new otherworldly enemies. Zombicide: Green Horde was kickstarted in June 2017 and had a highly successful campaign raising over five million dollars. During this campaign as an optional buy you could pick up the full expansion. It now has a retail release planned for those who missed out of the kickstarter.
The zombie plague is not limited to just humans and orcs. All manner of creatures are succumbing to the vile disease and launching an assault against the living. The rats that form into undead swarms are bad enough. Then there’s the ghostly Spectral Walkers that are only damaged by magic. But when there’s a zombie dragon to deal with, that’s a whole other category of terror! To take that out, the survivors are gonna need a bigger crossbow.
The expansion comes with over thirty-five miniatures including a huge dragon figure and is sure to add even more excitement to your game. Zombicide: Green Horde: No Rest for the Wicked, published by Cool Mini or Not, is slated to hit retail during the third quarter of 2018.
Gamelyn Games and designer Scott Almes have just launched a new kickstarter for the latest game in the Tiny Epic series: Tiny Epic Zombies. Featuring the ITEMeeples first introduced in Tiny Epic Quest, but this time wielding modern weapons like Katanas, Machetes, various guns, chainsaws, even a rocket launcher. The players can choose to play in one of 5 different game modes (Solo, Co-op, Competitive, Co-op v. Zombie player, and Competitive vs. Zombie player) in a race for players to complete 3 objectives to win the game, but while still keeping the hordes of zombies at bay.
With variable player powers (for both survivors and zombies), a variable setup, and fast, easy gameplay, the game is already funded and breaking through stretch goals. The game is on Kickstarter until February 9th, so check it out, if you dare to face the hordes.
Walkers are coming at you from all sides. Your group has handled worse, but you’ve made some questionable decisions and you’re not sure they still trust you. Will they run or fight beside you? WILL YOU SURVIVE???
If you are a fan of AMC’s The Walking Dead, you know how tense things can get when you are in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. Cryptozoic Entertainment‘s The Walking Dead: No Sanctuary will simulate those tense moments as you play as some of your favorite characters from the television series, such as Daryl, Glenn, Andrea, and of course, Rick Grimes (“Coral!”). The Kickstarter campaign for this game just launched last week, so you still have time to back it and help the campaign reach all of it’s stretch goals, like more minis…including Shane!
Designers Adam and Brady Sadler (whose previous works include Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game, Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition, and Star Wars: X-Wing) bring you this exciting co-op game that puts 1-4 players in situations taken directly from the show against many different enemies–both alive and dead–all with distinct movements and motivations. With the new leadership mechanic each player will get a chance to lead at some point in the game, which can greatly alter the team’s strategy. If players trust the leader, they can utilize some unique abilities; however, if they lose trust and defy the leader, stress and decreased morale can add to the dangers all of the survivors face.
Retail game components will include:
- Over 30 miniatures, including walker figures and survivor figures based on characters from the show
- Character boards and decks for each survivor that reflect their personalities on the show
- Over 200 cards, including Event Cards, Search Cards, and Location Cards
- 12 double-sided map tiles that create memorable locations from the show
- Over 100 tokens
- 10 custom dice
The Kickstarter campaign unlocks even more content, including many more miniatures, cards, and two expansions: “The Killer Within” prison expansion and “What Lies Ahead” farm expansion. So what are you waiting for? Go back this amazing game on Kickstarter now!
