It’s been out of print and hard to find for years, but game design studio, Albe Pavo, has launched the 2nd edition of Carnival Zombie on Kickstarter.
Carnival Zombie is a cooperative board game for 1 to 6 players. Each player takes the roll of a character as they work together to flee a sinking city overrun by zombies. Players control this party of heroes as they fight their way to one of the possible escape routes out of the city. During the night, players face restless hordes of zombies, while during the day they recover, move or search for useful items and other survivors. The party can only survive until dawn with close cooperation. If they’re attacked, they accumulate stress until becoming terrified! If just one character becomes too stressed… it’s game over (man)!
The second edition includes new scenarios that will allow you to face completely new challenges: a tutorial scenario, shorter scenarios, harder games, traitor mechanics, competitive game, more dexterity game and night-only scenarios!
Carnival Zombie was originally released by ALBE PAVO in 2013 and sold out in just 3 months. The 1st edition received acclaim from reviewers and players alike. In fact it received the Dice Tower Seal of Excellence and a super cool quote by Tom Vasel:
“One of the best cooperative games I’ve ever played, probably the best zombie game I’ve ever played.”
Watch some Dice Tower coverage of Carnival Zombie (1st edition).
Carnival Zombie is for 1-6 players ages 12+. Depending on the type of game played – scenarios or story mode – the estimated time to play is 90-240 minutes. The game is scheduled to arrive in backers’ hands in November 2019.

As mentioned in the Wallet Kickers post, this campaign is pretty much the most talked about board game Kickstarter right now. With already $1.5 million raised, 24 stretch goals knocked down, and still nearly 4 weeks left to go, Zombicide: Green Horde is going crazy. Which makes sense because this game continues where Zombicide: Black Plague left off, using the same mechanics but with an undead orcish enemy. It will still be you and your friends against the undead orc horde, but you have some new tricks up your sleeve this time around. In this box are brand new characters, items, maps, spells, and more. Even more awesome is that every box will come with a trebuchet mini for putting some serious hurt on those zombies. As a bonus for those backing the Kickstarter, you will also get a ballista and a feral dragon mini, because dragon bile has to come from somewhere. Fight through wave after wave of zombies to survive, and hopefully stop whatever has been bringing them back to life.
Zombicide: Green Horde will work as both as a stand alone game for new people coming into the Zombicide line, or can be easily combined with the previous game to take the variability to the nth degree. So go check out the Kickstarter today and snag your copy of the game, which by the end my be a solid brick of plastic with all the bonus minis being included.
Zpocalypse 2: Defend the Burbs was successfully funded on Kickstarter just over a year ago, and we are finding out it will hit retail in spring of 2017. Zpocalypse 2 is a tower defense type board game where each person is controlling a group of survivors outfitted with weapons, food, and various items. Each day you will plan what your survivors will do such as foraging for food, upgrading the safe house, guarding the safe house or just resting. Once you assign your people then the day comes and it’s time to do what you set out to do while contending with limited food and radiation poisoning. Can you outfit your safe house to defend against hunger and zombies to survive in the Zpocalypse? Find out next year.
In Dawn of the Zeds you are the people of Farmingdale, and recently there has been an outbreak of a new virus that is turning people into zombie like killers, nick-named zeds, and so it is up to you to rally the people and defend your home. Dawn of the Zeds has been a highly rated solo game since the first edition was released back in 2011, and last year the Kickstarter for the third edition was successfully completed, and most recently fulfilled. While the usual visual upgrades and rule improvements have been made for the third edition, the biggest change is that this edition adds cooperative play, so you and up to three friends will be able to work together to defend the town. So now since all the Kickstarter backers have their game, Victory Point Games has put the third edition game into wide release and is available now on the Victory Point Games site for you to purchase.
Tabletop Simulator is one of two major digital sandboxes that have been created to bring board games into the digital space, and now CMoN has released Zombicide Season 1 for this platform. There isn’t any word on if extra promo characters will be included, but regardless you will have access to the entire contents of the Zombicide Season 1 game including the rules and FAQs to help you learn the game quicker. The minis will all be colored and the play area is set up to look like you are playing the game during a zombie outbreak so the digital game will look just as good, if not better, than the physical incarnation. You can read more on the CMoN site and purchase the new DLC through Steam.
The release date continues to inch closer on the upcoming expansion to Dead of Winter called The Long Night. As that time approaches, Plaid Hat continues to show off some of the new things you can expect to find in the expansion.
First are some new abilities for the colonists, like Lily Mae’s ability to set explosive traps on a die roll of 6+, this ability puts a trap in an entrance spot and when a zombie hits it, not only does it prevent the placement of that zombie, but also blows away all the other zombies at that location. Another change is that tokens are now double-sided so the barricades flip over to traps on the other side, noise markers can be flipped to indicate if they added zombies or not, and helpless colonists can flip over to become unruly colonists. Also talked about are the fact the original locations will be included on thicker card stock and their decks have been revamped with improved items, plus your starting items have been improved as well to increase utility. But the best thing mentioned though is the fact you can get a Pulse Cannon from the new Raxxon location, this equipment lets you teleport people and zombies anywhere you want them to go twice per round.
Dead of Winter is an amazing game and this preview shows that we will be getting more amazing content for the game, you can see the full post on Plaid Hat’s website as well as pre-order the game and receive the special Rich Sommer promo card.
The highly anticipated expansion to the hit zombie game Dead of Winter is set to be released this summer, most likely in time for Origins.
Dead of Winter – The Long Night is both an expansion and a stand alone game. The game has players at a new colony location trying to survive with all new new survivors against brand new challenges. Can you handle being raided by members of other colonies? Will you explore more and unravel the mysteries of the Raxxon pharmaceutical location to find powerful items but release stronger enemies? Or will you upgrade your colony to help it better withstand the undead horde? These are all choices you will get to make in this new set, and if you want you can mix in the survivors and cards from the original set to increase the variety even more.
