More than likely to coincide with the launch of their latest Zombicide Kickstarter, CMON has released a companion app for the Zombicide: Black Plague game. This app effectively removes the need for a survivor board and will track all the needed information about your character on your device. There are also other additional features that make this app special, such as:
• A virtual deck of equipment cards allows you to easily control your survivors’ inventory, switching cards around with a flick of the wrist and no fear of cards slipping around.
• You can also let the app control the Zombie spawning deck, for an even easier time!
• As you gain experience and new Danger Levels, your new Skill options are automatically displayed, and the app incorporates any pertinent new game effects.
• Having a hard time keeping track of your actions as you gain new free ones? With the Action Bar, you can tick off each specific action as you take it, so you always know what actions you have left.
• Roll virtual dice for any of your equipped weapons, automatically calculating successful hits according to any combat skills you may have (and with sound effects to boot!)
• Choose any of the Survivor characters, including the promos. Up to 24 Survivors can be managed on the same device.
• Network capabilities! Each player can use their own device if preferred, and the app will maintain the whole game-state gracefully!
With a list of features like that, I don’t know why you wouldn’t get the app. You can find it in both the App Store and Google Play, and you can check out the article on CMON’s site for more info.
Here we have a trio of new game announcements from some notable names in the industry, Asmodee, CMON, and Plaid Hat Games. First we have Asmodee and Space Cowboys with a new edition of the Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective game, which was last printed by Ystari back in 2015. This new edition contains the same ten cases as before, however, they have retranslated and revised all the cases so the solutions and clues in some of them will have changed from the Ystari version. So while it may not be much new content for the owners of the original, this still brings the game back into print for those wanting a mind melting challenge. Look for this new edition on store shelves in the third quarter of this year, and you can check out the preview on Asmodee’s site.
Next from CMON we have the announcement of the next game in their Zombicide line, Zombicide Green Horde. They are staying in the middle ages with this one and so will be a sequel to the wildly successful Zombicide Black Plague. The terrors will be numerous and overpowering for our warriors in this game, but together they just might be able to pull through. “If Zombicide: Black Plague gave you nightmares, Zombicide: Green Horde will make them come true.” You can see the announcement for the game on CMON’s page, and look forward to the Kickstarter later this year.
Finally we have a new game being developed by Plaid Hat Games called Crystal Clans. This is going to be a two player tactical card game in a similar vein to Summoner Wars with different armies, card based units, and included maps to deploy on. However, in the comments of the announcement they have stated that is where the similarities end, and that Crystal Clans is going to have fresh new mechanics to make it stand out. The game is being designed by Colby Dauch, Andrea Mezzotero, and J. Arthur Ellis along with illustrations by the talented Martin Abel. You can check out the announcement on Plaid Hat’s site to see some of the excellent art being put together, and then prepare yourself for it’s planned fall release.
CMON Games has announced CMON Play, an organized play program exclusive to brick and mortar stores. If you had problems with the Kickstarter being slow yesterday it was mostly like around the time that the latest Zombicide project launched. Titled Zombicide: Black Plague and funded in minutes the game that helped make Cool Mini or Not a major player in the board game world is back and looking to break records again. Zombicide: Black Plague brings the game into an area it’s never been before; a fantasy setting.
Zombicide: Black Plague is a standalone cooperative board game for 1 to 6 players that brings the relentless zombie-killing action of Zombicide into a brand new fantasy setting! Players control a party of survivors as they fight to rid the land of an invasion of zombies controlled by the game itself. Survivors find weapons, learn spells, battle zombies, and gain experience. The more experienced they get, the more powerful they become, but the more zombies rise to face them!
But Black Plague isn’t just the same game in a different setting. There are several changes to the game as well. Perhaps the biggest change is the ‘dashboard’ that each player will receive to help organize their character. Basically it’s a plastic tray that will hold your character cards with special designated areas that work perfectly with a new inventory system. It also contains a sliding experience tracker and a peg markers for wounds and a skill tracker. The new inventory system assigns items to a specific slot to be used. For example armor must be worn on the body, weapons and spells equipped in the hands, and items like arrows can be stashed away in a backpack.
Additionally new fantasy races like dwarves and elves are added to the game and come with unique abilities that help them fight the undead hordes. But watch out, the undead are now being raised by living and breathing necromancers with great power and when they enter the board the number of zombies increases more and more! The necromancers don’t want to fight though, instead they try to escape you and continue to bring more living dead onto the board.
Zombicide: Black Plague comes with
- 9 double-sided game tiles
- 71 miniatures
- 6 survivor plastic dashboards, color bases, and ID Cards
- 48 plastic trackers
- 6 dice
- 125 cards
- 63 tokens
- 1 Rulebook
However an enormous amount of stretch goals have already been reached and the box contents have been increased dramatically. At this time there is still a lot of time left for the project to add even more.
Keeping in the tradition of Cool Mini or Not Kickstarters there is already an expansion for the game that adds a lot more miniatures, tiles, and other game components. For Black Plague the expansion is called Zombicide: Wulfsburg and introduces not only 4 more heroes that will allow you play up to 10 survivors at the same time but very cool looking zombie wolf miniatures.
Zombicide: Wulfsburg comes with
- 2 double-sided game tiles
- 22 zombie wolf miniatures
- 4 survivor miniatures and ID cards
- 4 plastic dashboards and color bases
- 32 plastic trackers
- 30 cards
- 1 Rulebook
The Zombicide series has been a huge hit for Cool Mini or Not and has always come with extremely well made miniatures so bringing the game into a fantasy setting is sure be hit for them. If you a Zombicide fan, have always wanted a Kickstarter copy of one of the Zombicide games, or just love the idea of battling zombie wolves in a fantasy setting then head over to Kickstarter and check out Zombicide: Black Plague!
