Renegade Games is proud to announce Spell Smashers a loot collecting word game! Use letter cards to create words (spells) that damage fierce monsters. As you deal damage you collect coins and the more coins you have the more loot you can score in the town! Hardback the word building pre-quill to Paperback by Fowers Games is available on iOS Universal and Android.  Both Burgle Brothers and Paperback have successfully made their way from our tabletops to our tablets.  And Hardback is following in their footsteps. Hardback has an elegant 19th century theme boasting 4 genres with unique abilities.  There are multiple game variants to explore as you build words and earn prestige in your race to the finish. Earn coins to build your deck and press your luck by drawing new cards. Any card can be used as a wild, but choose wisely as you lose that card’s ability.

Following on the heels of the popular word-building deck-building 2014 hit Paperback, designers Tim Flowers and Jeff Beck have returned with the next chapter on Kickstarter: Hardback. Artist Ryan Goldsberry returns to capture the look and feel of the 1800s literary scene.

Just launched, the title has already reached $76,000 – almost 400% of its $20,000 goal. The project ends at 12PM MDT on Wednesday April 26, 2017.

Thematically, Hardback actually functions as a stand alone prequel (“Pre-Quill”) to Paperback, as Hardback is set in the 19th century with gamers playing as Penelope Quill, Paige Turner’s (from Paperback) great-grandmother writing.

From the Kickstarter:

As an aspiring, 19th-century author, you work to write your next novel, earning money and prestige along the way. Spend your coin on new, more powerful cards to improve your deck and write ever better novels. Be the first to acquire enough prestige to complete your masterpiece and be recognized as the finest novelist of the age!

Hardback is not an expansion to Paperback, but functions as an entire new game with rules variations from the popular original game. Unlike Paperback, there are no wild cards, with every card having the option of being a wild card by being played face down. In lieu of purchasing victory cards, victory points are earned every time a card is played. Instead of the sometimes time consuming set up row cards are shuffled and placed up for possible purchase. New rules also include a press-your-luck mechanic as well as persistent effect cards.
