Wizkids Games has just announced the new social deduction game Chiyo’s Secret from designer J.B. Howell (Reavers of Midgard). In Chiyo’s Secret, players are trying to determine the identity and location of the wanted lovers Chiyo and Fusanobu in feudal Japan. One player takes on the role of Motonaka, the lovers’ son, trying to save his parents and help their escape. The rest of the players are either Allies, seeking to capture the pair for execution, Usurpers trying to lure Fusanobu into a trap and seize power, or Betrayers trying to betray the Daimo and use the pair as a gift for the Shogun. Players gain information by moving locals between establishments, or by questioning Motonaka, who may lie about his parents once per game. Players roles, excepting Motonaka, are secret, so exact intentions are unclear. The game ends when a player has met his or her winning conditions. Chiyo’s Secret is due to be released in February 2019, but for more information check out WizKids’ web page here.

Wizkids has just announced plans to release Doppleganger in 2018, an adventuring-party card game with a traitor mechanic. Wizkids has been on announcing a pile of new games, and Doppleganger can now get added to that last. Doppleganger is scheduled for a May 2018 release. Players aged 14+ will spend 30 minutes figuring out which of the 4-8 players in the game are traitors.
In Doppleganger players are working together to find three Artifacts of Light. Things are never easy for an adventuring party, and in this case one or more of the players are hidden-traitor dopplegangers, trying to stop the party from finding three artifacts.
Wizkids has described the game as having mechanics similar to Resistance, Battlestar Galactica, and Dark Moon. While adventuring in Doppleganger players are invited to join an adventure and secretly throw cards into the pool. Players will also be required to choose which dice to use in the battles they encounter. Cards in the pool will help the adventuring part succeed (a weapon) or fail (who threw in the poison potion?!).
Content of the game will include:
- 107 Cards (Heroes, Items, Quests, Loyalty, Reference)
- 5 Dice
- 1 Rule book
- 1 Dice bag
- Damage counters
- Exhaustion tokens

Kung-Fu Zoo is a dexterity dice flicking game in which 2-4 players take on the roles of the Elephant, Zebra, Cheetah or Gorilla. Each role has its own dice and abilities. Zendo, the rule guessing abstract game is finally getting an update and reprint. Zendo is an easy game to play, the active player will come up with a rule, like two pyramids must touch at the tip, and then the other players start building layouts tying to guess the rule. As the go along the rule maker will answer questions and let you know if you built something that satisfies the rule. Once someone figures out the rule they win.
When the Pyramid Arcade was announced and Kickstarted, everyone was clamoring for the game Zendo to be added to the list of games in the box. However, Looney Labs kept saying no, and then we found out that this was because they would reprint the game separately. And now we have a date to go with that, so look for the game to be back on store shelves in December of this year.
Wizkids has announced a new expansion to the Star Trek: Frontiers game, a re-theme and update to Mage Knight, called The Return of Khan. This expansion adds a whole new scenario to the game where Khan has returned and is looking to rule the galaxy with power he can steal from the Borg. It’s up to captains from across the Star Trek series, Picard, Kirk, Sisko, and more, to work together and stop him before he can complete his plans. This expansion you will give you all the tokens, tiles, and cards needed for this new scenario, as well as rules and tokens to be able to add a 5th player to the game. You can find this game on store shelves in November of this year, and you can head over to Wizkids’ website to read more about it.
Last from WizKids as well is the colorful euro style building game, Favelas. In this game you are building your own Favelas, a multi-level house painted all sorts of colors in order to beautify and rejuvenate the town. However there is a catch, the council over seeing this effort, and the one determining the point values, is notoriously fickle and will change their minds each year, changing the value of each color. So over three years in the game you will build up your town with colors that get you the most points before the council’s mood changes. The person with the most points at the end is the winner. Favelas looks like an interesting and colorful game, and it should arrive on store shelves in October of this year. Until then you can read more on Wizkids’ website.
In Tower of London by WizKids players will compete for victory by collecting ravens, dispatching Beefeaters, and fighting to control the tower. The game is designed by Daryl Andrews and Stephen Sauer, and supports 3-5 players with a play time of about 45 minutes.
In Tower of London, on each turn, players play two cards: the first card determines which building their Beefeater (guard) goes into, and the second card has a special power that triggers from the perspective of the Beefeater just placed.
At the end of a round, certain areas of the tower are scored based on who controls the majority of buildings by having the most Beefeaters in each. The game is over at the end of three rounds or when a player collects 7 ravens, in which case the game ends immediately.
Releasing in April, Tower of London is available for pre-order today. For additional information, please visit the WizKids Tower of London web page.
