The new Epic Card Game content is: (1) Duels – a two player starter set for Epic Card Game, designed for new players, (2) Jungle – a two player box set that can be played on its own or combined with any other Epic set, and (3) The Lost Tribe – a set of four fifteen card packs, combine any two to create a ready-to-play deck. All of the new content features the same design duo (Robert Dougherty, Darwin Kastle) and artist duo (Kaile Dutton, Vito Gesualdi) as the base game. The campaign also provides access to all previous Epic Card Game content: cards, playmats, sleeves, and promos.
For the other White Wizard games, this campaign has add-ons to acquire:
Realms is arguably the golden child of the 2 player head-to-head deck-builder
world. Ever since the game’s debut from White Wizard Games in 2013, people
have been extolling the virtues of this classic “buy cards”, “play cards”, “damage
opponent” card game. Designers Robert
Dougherty and Darwin Kastle created
an elegant, competitive deck builder which still has a solid following to this
day, and has inspired numerous expansions, such as Colony
and the latest, Frontiers.
The digital version of Star Realms has likewise gained traction, and this latest expansion has just been added to the popular app. Frontiers adds 45 new ships and bases to the game, as well as 2 new campaign chapters with 12 new missions. Frontiers is available now on all platforms; for more information on this popular add-on, check out the game page here.
Hero Realms Journeys features four, 12-card packs. There is the “Hunters” and “Travelers” packs which feature new Champions and Actions for the market deck, and the “Conquest” and “Discovery” packs which each contain 6 new Quests and 6 new Relics. At the beginning of the game each player is given a random quest, which can be shared with teammates, but are unknown to opponents. Relic cards are also dealt into a “relic pile” for each quest card in the game, while the rest of the relics are added to the market.
The Ancestry Pack adds 20 cards which allows players to be a Dwarf, Elf, Ogre, Orc, or Smallfolk, who all have their own strengths and weaknesses. These can be combined with any character packs or played by themselves. So, if an Elven Ranger or Dwarven Fighter was always your jam, Hero Realms has you covered with multiple race-class combinations. Each race comes with an Ancestry card which shows health modifications and special rules, an Ancestral skill or Ability card, and two cards which modify the starting deck.
The Lost Village Campaign Deck features a full color adventure book and over 100 cards, including 12 over-sized Master cards.
The Hero Realms Journeys Kickstarter campaign has multiple tiers to allow backers to fund only a few of the expansions, all the way up to everything which currently exists for the Hero Realms game. The project is seeking funding until Thursday, December 6th, 2018, is already well over 100% funded, and is expected to deliver in December of 2019.
In collaboration with Toys for Tots and Ronald McDonald House, White Wizard Games also plan to donate games to a children’s charity to brighten their lives over the holiday season. You don’t even have to back the project to participate. Each person who signs up for their newsletter, which will provide information about the progress of the Hero Realms Kickstarter and other news from White Wizard Games, will add a game to be donated.
The Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts & Design (AAGAD) award the Origins Awards at the Origins Game Fair each June. Let’s see who they are!
White Wizard Games have announced Star Realms Arena, an in-app digital tournament feature which was released today for the Star Realms digital app. The United Heroes expansion will also be part of the update and adds a new campaign chapter. United Heroes includes 8 new heroes which are more powerful than those in the Crisis set.

EPIC is a two to four player card game by White Wizard games, makers of Star and Hero Realms, where you duke it out as gods to see who is the greatest. This game brings back the play and feel of trading card style games that have been around for years, but without the costly need of buying randomly packaged booster packs. EPIC comes ready to go out of the box, and only adds cards in an LCG style where each pack has the same cards as every other pack of the same name. Previous packs have added new characters you can play as called Tyrants, or just added new cards to the game in Uprising. Well now they are adding new characters to play as in the form of a Pantheon. The first of the two packs features Furios, Father Nature and Maligus, the Dark One, each coming with 12 cards and 3 token cards in the pack so you can play as either deity. Furios is revered by all in the forest, except for Maligus that is, and he seeks to overthrow Furios. But when Furios summons you to his defense, you obey.
All three of these games have had many expansions already put out for them, so publishers figured that some more would be just what people want. First on the list is the Omens of the Pharaoh expansion for the dice game Elder Sign. What is interesting about this expansion is that it started as an expansion for the digital game only, but proved popular enough to be brought to the physical game as well. This new expansion will be a new adventure deck to the game of all new horrors you have to face, this time against an Egyptian back drop. One thing that does work in your favor is that this expansion will bring artifacts into the game, giving you a leg up by being able to re-roll dice without spending clues. You can read more about the expansion on the FFG website, and look for this release on store shelves in the first quarter of 2018.
Next are two more characters to add to the already long list of characters trying to drink each other under the table at the Red Dragon Inn. Allies: Adonis vs. The Lich King brings the hunky bard and the undead fiend into the game. Adonis will be another character you can play as, with several musical instruments at your disposal to either lull your opponents to sleep, or bash them over the head. Either way you can carry a tune and looking to take everyone else down. The Lich King is a new boss, and by far the most defensive boss, that you and all your friends can “fight” against. He brings a lot of magical prowess to the table so you will have to dodge his spells and strike when the time is right to keep him from drinking you all under the table. Look for this expansion to hit shelves in January of 2018.
And finally, we have some upcoming releases for the Hero Realms deck building game. First of those is a new campaign box called The Ruin of Thandar, which turns this competitive game into a cooperative adventure style deck building game. You will be working together with your friends to defeat these new evils, acquiring experience points and better cards as you go along until you can defeat the final boss. Look for this in the last quarter of this year.
The other two expansion are boss decks which add new characters that you can play as to the game. One is the Dragon Boss Deck and the other is the Lich Boss deck, each giving you a full starting deck for the respective bosses, allowing you to play as them instead of a hero. Look for both of these to hit stores in the fourth quarter of this year.
White Wizard Games has been busy lately and have announced upcoming releases as well as the launch of their latest Kickstarter. The first of those announcements is that they have updated their App implementation of the Star Realms game. Lots of updates have been made to the aesthetics of the game to make it look and sound better, plus some balancing updates to keep the game moving forward. Also with this update comes the availability of the Colony Wars expansion to be purchase for $4.99 in the app. With that purchase you will gain access to 46 additional cards for use in the game as well as the new mechanics associated with them. You can read more about the updates on the Star Realms website.
Next they announced the launching of Alpha Access to their latest game app, Epic Card Game Digital. Like the Star Realms app, this will bring the Epic Card Game into the digital realm allowing for online play, solo play, and hopefully online multiplayer. You will have to buy your way in if you want alpha access, else you will just have to wait for it’s release like everyone else.
Also announced was the next expansion for the Epic Card Game, simply called Epic Pantheon. This expansion will be six different packs of 15 cards each, similar to the Uprising packs and will contain “12 game cards, 2 deity cards (demigod, god or elder god), and 1 double-sided token“. Expect to see these packs available later this year in time for the holidays.
Last, but certainly not least, is the launch of the Kickstarter for the next Star Realms set, Star Realms Frontiers. Like the set before this is a new stand alone game that can be combined with the other games, but they are bringing in an aspect of Hero Realms that many people enjoyed. That aspect is asymmetric starting decks in the form of Command Decks. Each of these command decks will contain a commander with a starting authority and hand size in addition to a unique starting deck with 2 gambit cards. This means that players will now have differing hand sizes, authority, and abilities right from the start, giving fresh variety to the game. Also available in the Kickstarter are two new expansion packs, Stellar Allies and Lost Fleet, as well as access to all of the year 2 promo cards and additional cards as stretch goals. So if you like Star Realms and want to jump in, or expand your collection even more, head to the Kickstarter page today.
White Wizard Games has announced will be holding their own game fair in the month of November. This is going to be a big event so if you are in the Boston area from November 18th to the 21st then go check them out. The Epic World Championship qualifiers continue to be able to get a slot in the final tournament. Events will be held in UK, Sweden, New York, Florida, and Virginia along with a last chance qualifier at the White Wizard Games Fair in November.
And lastly, expansions for Star Realms, both the physical and the digital versions of the game are on the horizon. Star Realms United will be releasing next month and the Crisis: Fleets and Fortresses expansion for the app will be releasing this week. So look forward to both to expand your physical and digital collections of Star Realms.
Whether it’s a sci-fi theme or fantasy theme that you’re after, White Wizard Games has you covered with upcoming expansions for their hit games Star Realms and Epic Card Game, both designed by Robert Dougherty and Darwin Kastle.
The first expansion is Star Realms United. This expansion includes never-before-released multi-faction cards that pair The Blobs with The Machine Cult and The Star Empire with The Trade Federation. These new multi-faction cards are sure to add new crazy combos to the quick-playing Star Realms engine. Additionally in this expansion are new hero cards as well as missions to change up the way that you play!
Star Realms United will be sold in four different 13-card packs and will be available in November 2016.
Next is Star Realms Promo Pack 1! Coming in December 2016, this 15-card promo pack will feature alt-art versions of previously released Star Realms promo cards including the Battle Screecher, Megahauler, Battle Barge, and more!
Lastly, we have Epic Uprising which is a four-pack 48-card expansion (similar to previous expansion releases from White Wizard Games). Each of these packs will include new Champions and Event cards to spice up the various modes of play and will force players to consider new strategies when building their decks.
Each 13-card pack will come with 12 new Epic cards and 1 double-sided token. Look for Epic Uprising in November 2016!
