Talisman

USAopoly have partnered with Warner Bros. Consumer Products (on behalf of DC Comics) to bring Talisman: Batman – Super-Villains Edition to life. The game allows players to be one of Gotham City’s Super-Villains who sneak and fight through 2 floors, and the central tower, of Arkham Asylum. The first evil-doer to subdue Batman and release the other, dangerous inmates, wins the game.

In true Talisman fashion, players upgrade the Health, Strength, and Cunning of their characters before they face off against their ultimate objective, Batman, in the center of the map. While there can be only one winner, players can cooperate as they make their way to their foe. The game features artwork from the “New 52” era, 13 plastic character figures, more than 100 Encounter cards, six-sided dice, and character boards.

Talisman: Batman Super-Villain Edition allows for 2-6 players, aged 13+. Expect it’s release in June of 2019. For more information, visit the USAopoly website.

It was previously revealed that USAopoly had acquired the rights to make licensed versions of Games Workshop‘s classic fantasy board game Talisman, but the teaser was that 3 unknown IPs were in production. The first of these was revealed today, so get ready for Talisman: Kingdom Hearts Edition. Following in the wake of the release of Kingdom Hearts III, Talisman KH will feature the multitudes of beloved Disney and Square Enix characters from the immensely popular series of video games, embedded in the classic 3 tiered adventure and exploration game of Talisman. Expect Goofy, Sora, Riku, King Mickey and others to explore locations including Neverland and Traverse Town. Talisman KH will include marbleized dice, Munny-themed currency, and specialized tokens and cards. Look for Talisman: Kingdom Hearts later this year, and for more information, check out the press release from USAopoly here.

Love it or hate it, the board game Talisman is an important part of modern dungeon-crawl board game history. First produced in 1983 by Games Workshop and designer Robert Harris, Talisman is a roll and move game with multitudes of characters to play, items to find, monsters to slay, and expansions galore. The game has seen versions migrate through various companies, most notably the 4th edition published by Fantasy Flight Games jointly with Games Workshop. After the split between those two companies in 2017, the future of the game franchise was unknown, but a recent press release has revealed that the newest publisher to jointly produce the “Magical Quest Game” will be USAopoly. Details are few, but it does appear to be the nostalgic game back again from the dead, rather than the offshoot game recently released from Pegasus Spiele. However, the press release discusses “two new licensed editions”, which could mean Harry Potter, Disney, or even James Bond, all of which have been put into games by USAopoly in the past. For more details, check out the official press release from the New York Toy Fair.

Pegasus Spiele is slated to produce 4 new boardgames based on Games Workshop’s epic game Talisman. A fantasy game that has been popular for 35 years! The first of these to be released is Talisman- Legendary Tales a cooperative game meant for a younger group of heroes to stop the forces of evil from obtaining the Crown Of Command.  Character development uses the bag-building mechanism and the game has  5 connected and very re-playable stories.

Pegasus Spiele will have Talisman-Legendary Tales for sale at Gen Con 2018 at booth 2013. Regular distribution to follow afterward. If you plan on being at Gen Con and you grab the game – there’s an exclusive promo in it for you!

This year Games Workshop’s Talisman Adventure Board Game will celebrate its 35th anniversary. Pegasus Spiele, under a worldwide rights agreement with Games Workshop, will develop four new games set in the world of Talisman. The first of these games will be released in 2018.

The first edition of Talisman Adventure Board Game was published in 1983 which had players travelling a magical world to find ancient relics sand battle fantastic creatures (and each other). and perform epic quests. Once players completed enough quests they entered the inner world to face tougher challenges until they finally reached the Portal of Power to claim the Ultimate Crown.

The first game to expand the Talisman universe will be a children’s game developed by Lukas Zach and Michael Palm and is expected to release in the second half of 2018. Next in the pipeline will be an expandable card game, a role-playing game, and a dice game, though release dates for these will be announced at a later time.

“The Talisman board game has been enjoyed for decades by fans all around the world and is a truly seminal classic,” said Jon Gillard, Head of Licensing at Games Workshop. “We’re excited to be exploring the world of Talisman through these fantastic new games with our partners at Pegasus Spiele. Gamers of all ages have a lot to look forward to.” [source]

Pegasus Spiele are no strangers to the world of Talisman as they (along with Heidelberger Spieleverlag) published the German 4th Edition in 2008. Pegasus Spiele is also the exclusive distributor of the Talisman 4th Edition board game in Europe.

Nomad Games and Asmodee Digital have signed an agreement to continue development of Talisman: Digital Edition. Talisman (1983) is a popular dungeon crawl board game, unfortunately now out of print following the separation of Asmodee / Fantasy Flight from Games Workshop last year.  The digital edition of Talisman has been available since 2013, has over 10 expansions, and enjoys a dedicated following on iOS, Android, consoles and Steam. Nomad also announced a new expansion in development, the Harbinger, based on the Harbinger expansion for the board game. You can read the full press release on Nomad Games’ website here.

Games Workshop has announced that the classic dungeon crawl Talisman will be getting a new edition. There were no details on the look or changes to the new edition, but Games Workshop did say the new edition is expected later this year. Talisman was originally published from Games Workshop in 1983, and revised extensively for the third edition in 1994, but with the 4th edition in 2007 became a joint venture between Games Workshop and Fantasy Flight Games. The future of Talisman became uncertain when Fantasy Flight Games and Games Workshop parted ways, and Fantasy Flight discontinued it’s production of Games Workshop games in February 2017.  Talisman also has a digital version available for many platforms.

Games Workshop’s Announcement on the future of Talisman can be read here.

talisman horus screen

In the long history of Warhammer 40,000 (from Games Workshop), and it’s very long, almost 10,000 years long, no event has enthralled the minds of lore-hounds like The Horus Heresy.  Amidst a galaxy spanning quest to reunite the human empire, Horus the Warmaster, right hand of the Emperor, leader of tens of thousands of space marines, betrays his leader and attacks Terra.  He is joined, not just by almost half of existing space marines from other armies, but by the very gods of chaos themselves, goading and guiding Horus and his black-hearted legions in their betrayal.  Now you can relive this moment in Talisman: The Horus Heresy, a digital game coming soon from Nomad Games Ltd.

The Game is Talisman: The Horus Heresy and is a digital board game based on the Talisman rule system and set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, during the cataclysmic events of the Horus Heresy.

Up to four players will be able to take control of one or more of the galaxy’s greatest heroes or most notorious villains. Taking the side of either traitor or loyalist, these Warlords will form vast companies of Space Marines, battalions of tanks and battlefleets of Spacecraft. They are the most powerful beings in the Galaxy and their followers are legion.

The teaser video shows brief glimpses at various components that will appear in the game.  More images can be found on the product page, linked above.  If you’re a fan of Talisman or the Warhammer 40,000 universe, this game should be on your list to investigate.  Expect to see it release some time next month for PC and Mac.

harbinger

Fantasy Flight Games has released a new preview teasing the contents of its new Talisman expansion, titled “The Harbinger.”

Devils invade the realm of the living, dire omens fills the skies, and the ground itself changes unpredictably in The Harbinger, a new expansion for Talisman Fourth Edition. As the aged, blind Harbinger wanders throughout the land leaving a trail of demons and destruction in his wake, the apocalypse follows close on his heels. You will need the utmost cunning and fortitude to merely survive in these treacherous times, let alone reach the Crown of Command.

harbinger cards

The new box will feature four “Omen stacks,” consisting of eight cards each, which progress sequentially through a series of omens that fundamentally alter the game rules; the two detailed in the preview make magic more available and subsequently more costly, and alter the board itself by dropping terrain cards into spaces on the map.

Talisman itself has been knocking about in various forms since 1983, and there are still those who will strongly maintain that its current (revised Fourth) edition is the definitive dungeon-crawl board game experience. It’s impressive to see there’s still plenty of room for innovation in that system.
