super heroes

Dark Unicorn Games has re-started their first Kickstarter project, Super Powered Smash Masters.

Designed by Adam Cogan, Super Powered Smash Masters is for 2 to 8 players ages 10 and up and plays in 30 minutes. It is a lighthearted, super hero parody, deck-building gateway game chocked full of super heroes you can take into battle against your fellow players.

With 40 heroes to choose from, each having their own unique power, and over 200 additional auxiliary cards to enhance their powers, there is plenty of variety and replay-ability in this one.  In each game of Super Powered Smash Masters, you will select 9 heroes and 50 other cards to use in battle.  Whether playing your heroes special super power, using smash cards to make attacks or counterattacks, making global changes with story cards, equipping your hero with loot cards, or creating a powerful combination attack using team-up cards, you’ll find no shortage of action in this family-friendly card game.

If you like super heroes and you enjoy having laughter filled gaming nights, be sure to check out Super Powered Smash Masters!

Like the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and GreaterThanGames is taking that approach to the Sentinels of the Multiverse card game.  Having had wonderful success with the super hero themed card game since 2011, on it’s 5th anniversary the final expansion for the game, OblivAeon, is now live on Kickstarter.  This new expansion promises to bring more of what you want in the form of heroes, villains, and environments along with some new items.  First is the addition of a mission system that will gain you allies and additional tools to aid in you in your fight against the mighty OblivAeon, the toughest opponent you will ever face.  Another addition is that you will be fighting the battle on two fronts now, with two environments as you fight back the Scions and Aeon to get at the final big bad.  Also new is that since the whole of existence is in jeopardy, villains you have fought in the past have come back as allies such as Baron Blade coming in as Luminary, and The Matriarch coming back as The Harpy.  All this is shaping up to make this exit of the card game a high note.

Now as for the campaign itself, already it is having meteoric success in raising over $375,000 within the first day and blowing past 14 stretch goals, unlocking things like a comic, new hero variants, and new environments.  Also available in this campaign is a mega collectors box to hold every single Sentinels card that has been released, and you can buy the Hero’s pack, which is a collection of every hero variant that has been released to date.  No more paying out big bucks for those limited early variants, now you will be able to get them all with fresh new artwork.  If you want to jump on the bandwagon like over 2900 other people (me included), head on over to the campaign page to pledge now.

Iello has announced four new releases are now available including three expansions to Guardians’ Chronicles and Welcome to the Dungeon a mini dungeon crawler.

In Welcome to the Dungeon 2 – 4 players will send their characters into a dark and dangerous dungeon. They will either draw a monster card on their turn or pass and will be out for the round.  If they draw a monster card they have to either add that card to the dungeon pile or place it face down in front of them removing one of the pieces of equipment the hero for that round has. Cards will continue to be drawn until everyone but one person passes. The remaining player must then take the hero through the dungeon cards and either defeat the monsters in them with the equipment they have left or take their value in damage. If the hero makes it through the dungeon the player will draw a victory card if they fail twice they are out of the game. The winner of the game is the either the first person to score to victory cards or the last player left in the game.

Welcome to the Dungeon from designer Masato Uesugi is a quick, simple, and fun push your luck game. It has great illustrations by Paul Mafayon. You can watch a review of it by Tom Vasal here or the Game Boy Geek here. It’s definitely worth looking for at your FLGS/OLGS.

Also available are three expansions to Guardians’ Chronicles a miniatures game that allows players to play super heroes or their arch nemesis Professor Skarov. They expansions are:

  • The Terror Trio – introduces a trio of supervillans: Voltage, Nuke, and Iron Turtle as well as additional tiles like a raging volcano and a polar landscape.
  • Night Squad – adds four new heroes: Lieutenant Bigfoot, Armor, Night Vigilante, and Quickshot as well as two trap cards.
  • True King of Atlantis – adds a new threat to the game: Aquarion whom you can ally with Professor Skarov or allows players to plunge into the depths of Atlantis.
