Plaid Hat Games has announced Specter Ops: Broken Covenant, a stand-alone expansion from Emerson Matsuuchi for his 2015 hit Specter Ops. In Broken Covenant, one player again takes on the role of a lone A.R.K. agent, secretly moving within the jungles of South America, trying to retrieve 3 mission targets while being pursued by genetically modified hunters from Raxxon. Broken Covenant uses very similar mechanisms to Specter Ops, with one player marking their movements on a pad representing the board, on which the hunters search for their prey, but features new equipment, hunters, game board and agents.

Plaid Hat Games has announced a new game in the Specter Ops universe, Crossfire by Emerson Matsuuchi. In Crossfire, players join the struggle between Raxxon and A.R.K. trying to either kill or save a Raxxon VIP. Players are divided into two teams of assassins and agents, and need to use deduction, social skills, and their limited information to figure out who among the crowd of bystanders is the VIP, and whose side each player is on. After three minutes of play, players need to decide on one person to shoot. If the VIP is still standing, the Agents win, otherwise the assassins win. But be careful, because anyone who accidentally shot a bystander automatically loses.
Crossfire is due to be released this summer. You can read the full news article on Crossfire here.
Hidden movement games are not exactly common, however, there have been some notable users of that mechanic including Specter Ops, Fury of Dracula, and Scotland Yard. Ares Games partnered with Pendragon Games hoping to add to that illustrious list their new game, Last Friday. Last Friday is a hidden movement game that brings to life the old “slasher” type horror movies, which can be easily seen with the box and title being a play off of the Friday the 13th movies. In this game, for 2 to 6 players, one person is the “slasher” and the rest are campers. The game plays out over four chapters where the slasher, who remains hidden, will try to kill the campers while the campers try to band together and fight back before they are all killed.
While I haven’t played many hidden movement games, “slasher” flicks were always something I liked and bringing the two together seems like a great idea. You can read more on the Horror Fix site and look forward to the release of the game in August of 2016.
Plaid Hat Games announced that they have made available for download a “Frequently Asked Questions” article for Specter OPS:Shadow of Babel, a stealth action game described as “Metal Gear the boardgame” by our very own Tom Vasel in Miami Dice episode 154.
Here’s a glimpse at some of the content:
Q. Can the agent double-back or not move at all?
Q. If the agent runs past two spaces where one can be seen by one hunter and the second can be seen by another hunter, do I place two last seen markers?
A. No, only one last seen marker is placed. Note that if the agent is seen by the Gun, she will still get the opportunity to shoot regardless of whether the last seen token is placed in her LOS.
Q. When the hunters use the motion sensor and I moved 2 or fewer spaces on my turn, can I still announce that motion was detected?
Q. When announcing the direction motion is detected, is it based on the agent’s current position or previous position (or somewhere in between)?
A. It is based on the agent’s current potion relative to the vehicle’s position.
Q. Can I steal the vehicle?
