Social Deduction Game
Big Potato has released their two latest games, OK Play and Chameleon, and both are exclusive to Target stores. The first is Chameleon, a social deduction game in the same vein as Spyfall where you are trying to find the chameleon. To start you shuffle up the code cards and the chameleon card and give one to each player, then you will flip over a topic card and roll two dice. From those two dice and the code card it will indicate which topic, there are 16 on a card, the players will be talking about. At that point you will take some time to think of a word associated with the topic, something specific but not too specific. The chameleon’s job is to either blend in and not get outed, or if that fails, to figure out what the topic is. Everyone else’s job is to make it hard for the chameleon to figure out the word, and try to sus out who the chameleon really is. Tom Vasel give it a Seal of Excellence in his video review and so if you like games like Spyfall, give this one a look.
The other game is OK Play, a simple abstract game where you are trying to get 5 of your colored pieces in a row. Gameplay is super easy in that all you do on your turn is place a piece, or move a piece if they are all out, and whoever gets 5 in a row first is the winner. With quick and simple gameplay like that, Big Potato took the time to make sure the game is playable anywhere, and I think they accomplished that. The pieces are nice plastic tiles and the carrier for them keeps them all contained in four nice stacks, allowing for easy travel with this game. Tom give this game a Seal of Approval in his video review and so if you like simple abstract games like this, check it out. For more info you can read the two press releases below.
The Chameleon – Big Potato Games
Big Potato are back with a brand new game called The Chameleon. The indie games company will be releasing its game as an exclusive at Target this summer and the game is out now across all stores and on-line.
It was recently crowned the ‘Best Party Game’ at the UK Games Expo which is the third largest games convention in the world, and was awarded The Dice Tower’s reputable ‘Seal of Excellence’.
The Chameleon is a family-friendly, social bluffing game, devised by legendary board game inventor Rikki Tahta, creator of Coup. If you are the hidden Chameleon, your mission is to stay undetected and work out the secret code word. If you aren’t the Chameleon then you must track down that elusive Chameleon without giving away the secret word. If the wrong person is accused, the real Chameleon escapes. If the Chameleon is caught, they have one last chance to escape by guessing the secret word.
Games are short and sweet, and full of flying accusations, quick-thinking and Sherlock-like deductions.

OK Play – Big Potato Games
This summer, indie board games company Big Potato is releasing its new family-friendly travel game called OK Play. Big Potato is the only board game brand that is exclusive to Target and the game is out now across all stores and online.
OK Play is super-simple to learn but tricky to win. It’s like an off-road Connect Four but for 2-4 players and to win you’ve got to sneak a straight or horizontal line of 5 tiles in a row. There’s no board to stop the game going off in random directions and if you run out of tiles, you get to re-position old ones.
With toughened plastic tiles and a handy carabiner, OK Play is made to travel. Don’t leave home without it.

About Big Potato
After the success of their trivia card game Linkee, founders Ben, Dean and Tris decided to set up their own business. Big Potato was set up in 2012 as an independent board games company. With all of the products created and designed in-house, Big Potato offers a variety of board games ranging from family games to adult party games. The Shoreditch-based company sell through UK retailers both large and small. Last year, they successfully entered the U.S. market through an exclusive deal with Target.
Back in the hay day of Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, Total Recall earned itself a place as a classic among sci-fi movies, to the point where it still gets referenced in movies to today. So naturally a board game about the movie would be a good way to tap into nostalgia and bring new people into the hobby. Enter Overworld Games and their next board game, Total Recall: The Official Board Game. The original movie was all about the mutant rebels rising up against the tyrannical Federal Colonies, and so what better genre of game to make it into than social deduction. The game has everyone entering a Rekall dream where you are armed with a gun and a mission, kill the leader of the opposing faction. The game will play similar to Good Cop, Bad Cop, but with the added ability of people being able to become Rekall scientists. When you become a Rekall scientist you now have the ability to manipulate the dreams and change the game, even to the point where you can win by yourself. The Kickstarter for the game will launch in August of this year with a retail release in 2018. Also of note for the Kickstarter is that a NSFW (not safe for work) version will be available for pledging, most likely paying homage to the violence and gore in the source movie. You can read the press release below for more information.
Total Recall Announced by Overworld Games
PASADENA, California, June 28, 2017 – Overworld Games announced they will be publishing Total Recall: The Official Tabletop Game, based on the futuristic 1990 Studiocanal film where Rekall scientists promise Doug Quaid a “dream of a lifetime,” which for him, turns out to be a battle over Mars between the tyrannical Federal Colonies and a mutant Rebel uprising.
In the tabletop game, you begin in a Rekall dream armed with a gun, where you are secretly on the Federal Colony or Rebel team. Your objective is to find and eliminate the opposing leader (Kuato or Cohaagen) and you’ll need the help of other players on your team to secure your victory. You can even exit the dream and become a Rekall scientist where you’ll manipulates the dream from the outside to take the win for yourself.
The game uses the engine of the smash hit game, Good Cop Bad Cop®, but adds tons of changes to the mechanics and components to fit the Total Recall universe. “Fans of the movie will truly feel like they are in the middle of a Rekall dream,” says Overworld Games President Brian Henk.
The game will launch on Kickstarter in August 2017 offering a fancy Deluxe version and a “Not Safe for Work pack” while the Standard version will be available in stores in 2018. More info is available on totalrecallgame.com.

3 Secrets is the new cooperative card game for aspiring detectives. The goal of the game is to unravel the three secrets of an unresolved case before time runs out.
One of the players takes on the role of an informant who knows the truth about the case: they know which secrets need to be discovered, and try their best to help the others guess them correctly. But the clock is ticking and clues are scarce. You must question the informant to gather useful information and find the solutions. If you grope around in the dark, the informant can reveal an important clue but this will cost you precious time! Use your best observing eye, lateral thinking, and deduction skills to unravel all the mysteries of the ambiguous characters that populate this game.
3 Secrets comes with a free app available for download at the Apple AppStore and on Google Play.
This game will be offered for the first time in the U.S. at Gen Con.

The Italian company, founded in 2001, is fully committed to publishing and distributing board games and card games worldwide. Its games, with the dV Giochi brand, have won great acclaim in Italy and abroad: the most famous dV Giochi card game, BANG! is considered an “evergreen” in the game market.
Grey Fox Games has started a Kickstarter for the first expansion to their hit social deduction game from last year, Deception: Murder in Hong Kong. Deception: Undercover Allies adds 50 new Means Cards, 80 Clue Cards and 5 Scene Tiles, as expected, but also adds in new roles and the ability to play with more people, up to 14 in all. Additional North American, Western European and Southern European Theme Packs are available, allowing your friendly local Canadians access to the Zamboni, Hockey Stick and Curling Stone, as a small example. Multiple Add-On buys and stretch goals are available, as well as purchase of the original game.
The Kickstarter for Deception: Undercover Allies continues through July 3, and is expected to deliver in December 2017.
Lots of games to go through so lets get right to it, first on the list is a new creation from Seth Jaffe and Tasty Minstrel Games called Crusaders. The object of the game is to spread the influence of your Order far and wide before the king begins to fear your power, and disbands them all, ending the game. You will accomplish different actions through your own personal rondel of different actions and action cubes you move using a mancala mechanic. Throughout the game you will be upgrading the spaces on your board, building buildings, and doing all you can to spread your influence. Be the greatest order of them all before their collapse, and you will be the winner. Look for this game in September of this year.
Next from TMG is an import in the form of Okey Dokey from famed designer Hisashi Hayashi. This is a cooperative game of animals trying to put on a show, a music show. Each player will have a hand of cards and they need to play these cards down in a 5×10 grid. The difficulty comes from the placement restrictions and the fact your can’t tell anyone what you have, but you can drop hints. Look for this small game on store shelves in September.
Next is the reprint of the train stock market game, American Rails. In American Rails you are a wealthy capitalist managing a portfolio of stocks and bonds in six different in game rail companies. You will be negotiating, trading, and expanding these companies in order to gain the most money. Whoever is richest at the end will be the winner. This reprint should be hitting stores in May of this year.
Also coming in May from Capstone Games is the latest edition of Xanadu, a highly interactive card game. Like a lot of games the object is to gain the most money, but to do that you need to sell buildings. But to build those buildings you need to send workers to other buildings to gain resources, which you can do on your own cards or your opponents. You can even sabotage your opponents, making this a rather cutthroat game.
From Z-Man Games we have a new game announced called Valletta that will be coming out in July. In the game you are building a town in the baroque era, utilizing a deck building mechanic to get you resources and perform actions. In this game you don’t buy new cards, you build new buildings and you will get new cards that strengthen your deck, pushing you closer to victory. But like all good deck building type games, at some point you have to turn from resource generating to turning the resources into the points needed to win. Check out the preview on Z-man’s site to find out more about this new game.
Next is a game coming out very soon, and that is Oktoberfest from Rio Grande Games. This is a card game all about serving beer to thirsty patrons during Oktoberfest. There are twelve tents in the game and you will be playing down patrons in those tents trying to buy up the right beer out of the 6 available. When a tent closes the most recent beer bought there will score, giving the most points to the majority holder of that beer. All twelve tents will never be closed so you have to time things right to reap the most points and emerge the winner.
Coming soon from Pandasaurus Games we have the latest social deduction game called Red Scare. This is all about the FBI exposing the communists out to bring down our way of life. You will have to investigate and accuse those you know and expose their darkest secrets, and maybe you have some secrets of your own! Look for this game to come out in September of this year.
Finally, also from Pandasaurus Games, is the trick-taking style card game called King’s Life. In this game the king has a hard life, and so to keep himself from going nuts he alternates his days of royal duties with days of completely goofing off. It’s your job as part of his court to make sure he is able to both fulfill his duties, and party hard. Not much else has been said about this game, so we will have to wait for more info as the September release date approaches.
While the One Night series has been going crazy on Kickstarter, Bezier Games hasn’t forgotten about it’s older brother, Ultimate Werewolf. So to keep the game fresh, Bezier Games has just released a new expansion to the game called Ultimate Werewolf: Hunting Party. This new expansion pack adds several new roles to increase the chaos and make things even more interesting for your werewolf games. The new included roles are:
- The Huntress – a one-shot wonder guaranteed to kill her target
- The Mad Bomber – takes out the two players closest to him if he’s killed
- The Revealer – has the ability to kill every single werewolf in just one night…unless he’s wrong about who’s a werewolf, in which case he dies
- The Mystic Seer – she knows the exact role of her target
- The Mentalist – knows if any pair of players are on the same team or not
- The Alpha Wolf – can turn a player into a wolf at night instead of eliminating him
So if you want some more variety in your Werewolf game, head on over to Bezier Games to get your copy today.
Chara Games, the publisher behind the successful Kickstarter game Commissioned, has started a new Kickstarter Campaign for UNAUTHORIZED, a 6-12 player social deduction game about the struggle between a totalitarian state and an underground rebellion church. In UNAUTHORIZED, players start with a secret role card affiliating them with the State or the Church, and through a series of rounds collect experience cards. These cards reflect events in their life which can push the player and others towards or away from one of the factions. After 4 rounds of 3 phases each, the Chuch wins if it has the majority of followers, as long as none of them are in jail, otherwise the State wins. UNAUTHORIZED comes with 12 Role and 97 Experience Cards, and is expected to deliver in November 2017.
The Kickstarter Campaign for UNAUTHORIZED can be seen here.
