Sentinels of the Multiverse
Greater Than Games, perhaps best known for Sentinels of the Multiverse and Spirit Island, announced it has acquired Nevermore Games. After previously merging with Dice Hate Me Games in 2015, the St. Louis based company will now take over Nevermore.
Details of the acquisition were not provided, but Greater Than Games will support Nevermore’s existing games, as well as, finishing fulfillment of their Dark Dealings: Dwarven Delve Kickstarter. More details should be forthcoming.
Several board games began their Kickstarter campaigns this week, and all with vastly different themes:
Tesla vs. Edison: Duel is a 2-player card game from Artana LLC, distilled from the original Tesla vs. Edison: War of Currents and advertised to play in only 30 minutes. Players can choose one of 8 famous inventors (including Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison, of course) and take their respective sides in the War of the Currents. The inventors all play differently, but players can also differentiate their electric empires by hiring famous assistants, completing projects, investing in minor companies, and spreading propaganda against the other side. The game is set to ship in October 2017. For more information, check out the Kickstarter page here.
Sentinels of Earth-Prime is a new standalone cooperative card game that uses the rules of the hit superhero game, Sentinels of the Multiverse, in a new setting. This time, the heroes have to protect Earth-Prime, the setting of the Mutants & Masterminds RPG from Green Ronin Publishing. They are partnering with the publisher of the original Sentinels, Greater Than Games. The game includes 10 hero decks, 4 villain decks, and 4 environment decks. It is set to be delivered in April 2018. More information can be found on the Kickstarter page here.
Chariots of Rome comes from Victory Point Games, probably best known for their historical war games. In this game, however, 2-8 players take instead to the Circus Maximus in Rome in what appears to be a brutal chariot race in honor of the Emperor. Players can control one of 12 single charioteers (with special abilities, obviously) or one of 4 different factions consisting of two chariots, all of which will not only compete for every millimeter on the hallowed track, but try to hinder their opponents’ progress along the way. And on top of all that, racers will be subjected to the whims of the gods through global Fate events that may enhance or hinder even the best laid plans. Visit the Kickstarter here.
Green Ronin, publisher of the Mutants and Masterminds RPG, along with Greater Than Games, publisher of Sentinels of the Multiverse, are working together on a new game. This new game will take much of the mechanics of the Sentinels of the Multiverse game and place it firmly in the Mutants and Masterminds RPG universe, titled Sentinels of Earth-Prime. This means a whole new line-up of heroes, villains, and environments as well as new storylines to explore in this new game. As a fan of Sentinels of the Multiverse, I am very looking forward to more original superheroes in a similar game type, hopefully with enough changes to make the two games distinct and worth owning both.
The current plans are for the game to be Kickstarted in April and then published in 2018 by Green Ronin.
Sentinels of the Multiverse is a highly rated superhero card game that has been running for 5 years now, but the game is coming to an end. Now not to worry though, the game continues to be printed, it’s just that the next expansion to be released, Oblivaeon, will be the last in the Sentinels line. So to celebrate that, Greater Than Games is helping people complete their collections by offering a Hero Variant Pack that includes every hero card and variant that has ever been printed. No more hunting for the highly limited exclusive ones or paying top dollar for them, now you can get them all, with brand new art, in one package. But even more special, in a limited print run they are offering all these cards in foil form, meaning you can have all the heroes with a nice shiny finish to them. The regular non-foil version of the set will come later, but for now you can pre-order the foil version while supplies last at your local game store.
Like the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and GreaterThanGames is taking that approach to the Sentinels of the Multiverse card game. Having had wonderful success with the super hero themed card game since 2011, on it’s 5th anniversary the final expansion for the game, OblivAeon, is now live on Kickstarter. This new expansion promises to bring more of what you want in the form of heroes, villains, and environments along with some new items. First is the addition of a mission system that will gain you allies and additional tools to aid in you in your fight against the mighty OblivAeon, the toughest opponent you will ever face. Another addition is that you will be fighting the battle on two fronts now, with two environments as you fight back the Scions and Aeon to get at the final big bad. Also new is that since the whole of existence is in jeopardy, villains you have fought in the past have come back as allies such as Baron Blade coming in as Luminary, and The Matriarch coming back as The Harpy. All this is shaping up to make this exit of the card game a high note.
Now as for the campaign itself, already it is having meteoric success in raising over $375,000 within the first day and blowing past 14 stretch goals, unlocking things like a comic, new hero variants, and new environments. Also available in this campaign is a mega collectors box to hold every single Sentinels card that has been released, and you can buy the Hero’s pack, which is a collection of every hero variant that has been released to date. No more paying out big bucks for those limited early variants, now you will be able to get them all with fresh new artwork. If you want to jump on the bandwagon like over 2900 other people (me included), head on over to the campaign page to pledge now.
Five years after its first appearance, the smash hit superhero card game Sentinels of the Multiverse is officially coming to a close. The story of the Freedom Five and their legendary allies and enemies has so far wound its way through 6 major expansion sets and a myriad of single deck expansions, each building up the vibrant world of the game, but GTG has been very open about the fact that that story wouldn’t last forever. Now the end is officially nigh.
According to the official announcement on the Greater Than website, Sentinels’ final expansion, Oblivaeon, is the planned culmination of everything that has come before it – those inclined may find clues about the finale hidden throughout the previous expansions – and it will bring together all the different storylines of the Multiverse.
To bring all of this to life, Sentinels is returning to its Kickstarter roots one last time. The official campaign will launch Tuesday, February 9th and, as is only appropriate for the franchise’s swan song, it will also include special anniversary content such as a new printing of all the character promos that have ever been released for the game (with all new art!) and the SotM Ultimate Collector’s Case, which will hold your entire Sentinels collection in one purposely designed box.
Keep your eyes peeled for the campaign, and if you’d like to know more, check out the full GTG announcement here.
Greater Than Games (GtG), responsible for hits like Sentinels of the Multiverse, has brought Monster Truck Mayhem designed by Ben Pinchback & Matt Riddle to Kickstarter.
SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! Monster Truck Mayhem is invading the SuperMegaDome! Brought to you by Ridback Pub, 101 The Animal, and Big Al’s Sound Emporium, this thrill show spectacular will BLOW YOUR MIND! All your favorite trucks and more will be there… AND SO SHOULD YOU!
Monster Truck Mayhem is a real time dice rolling game that has 2-5 players racing monster trucks through an obstacle course. This is a competitive game that will have players rolling custom dice to move 1-3 spaces. The dice have two special symbols on them a ‘Tire’ and a ‘Boost’, roll three ‘Boost’ symbols and you get an extra movement, roll three ‘Tire’ symbols and you can cause another player to spin out.
There are 6 trucks for players to choose from, each with a different special ability. A few examples are:
Big D – can move forward three spaces without rolling dice with the Drive Angry! Mayhem ability.
Cthulhu Crusher – can make other racers go insane during a race forcing them to move backwards instead with the The Insanity Roll.
Valkyrie – can move 5 spaces instead of three when players roll three ‘Boost’ symbols.
Truckdor – uses a special Fire Die with a wild side that can be used as any other die face.
An interesting twist on this project is that there will be no stretch goals, instead GtG has ‘unlocked’ them all at the start of the project and there is only one pledge level making backing this project a very simple process. Additionally they are including a free expansion with the base game during the Kickstarter. The expansion includes 2 more trucks to choose from as well as rules for multi-lap races that will allow players to upgrade their trucks.
Monster Truck Mayhem certainly looks like a great time in a box, with real time competitive play and take that elements this game could be a big hit with players that enjoy quick playing real time games. I would expect lots of shouting and laughter as you play this one. Not only fun it will look great on the table with art by Benjamin Raynal who also illustrated King of Tokyo as well as Jeff Brown and Chris Kirkman.
If you’re interested in a fast, fun, crazy, real time dice rolling extravaganza, are a Monster Truck Fan that can’t afford your own real life truck to race, or just enjoy the frenzied excitement that this game will bring into your life then you should check out Monster Truck Mayhem on Kickstarter here. In the wake of the successful rollout of their latest expansion for the Sentinels of the Multiverse card game, Wrath of the Cosmos, Greater Than Games has announced another upcoming expansion, Villains of the Multiverse!
Villains of the Multiverse is a collection of ten super-powered villains for Sentinels of the Multiverse. Rather than being standalone villains, they work as part of a team of villains in the playstyle introduced in Sentinels of the Multiverse: Vengeance. Additionally, Villains of the Multiverse includes two new environments, which can be used in any Sentinels of the Multiverse game.
In addition to this new expansion, Greater Than Games has also announced a new standalone set for Sentinel Tactics, Battle for Broken City, and an accompanying expansion for this new set, For Profit.
Sentinel Tactics: Battle for Broken City is a standalone game using the Sentinel Tactics system. It can be played on its own or be combined with Sentinel Tactics: The Flame of Freedom and Uprising. It will include new playable characters, map tiles, and scenario books. The For Profit expansion contains additional characters and scenarios involving content from both the Flame of Freedom and Battle for Broken City core games.
A preorder period for these three titles-as well as for accessories such as villain oversized cards-will begin on January 19th and will last until March 12th, 2015. GTG expects all preorders to be delivered by the end of 2015 and plans to release them in waves.
For more information on these new titles and the preorder system, check out the Greater Than Games website here.
Greater Than Games pulled the plug on their latest Sentinels of the Multiverse project on Kickstarter, Story War: Sentinel Conflict. With just a few days left and only 70% of funding in place, Christopher Badell (Game Design Director) and his team made the difficult design to cancel the project.
“We had hoped there would be interest in a Sentinel Comics version of Story War, as we had played and enjoyed Story War. However, the response here, on our website and others, and on social media has been clear: Story War is not a direction people are interested in seeing the Multiverse go.”
While Story War and a comic series might not be the right fit for Sentinels of the Multiverse, fans continue to show a lot of interest in more Sentinels content. Badell notes the recent Challenges and Achievements release, and that shipping has begun for Wrath of the Cosmos. There are also planned Sentinels Tactics tournaments and Multiverse Month, an organized play event throughout January.
To read the rest of Chris Badell’s update, check out his post on the Story War: Sentinel Conflict Kickstarter page.
Sentinels of the Multiverse, from Greater than Games, is growing into a powerful IP with a host of expansions to the original game as well as the recently released tactical miniatures game, Sentinel Tactics: The Flame of Freedom. Taking it a step further, the team at GTG is partnering with Cantrip Games, the makers of Story War, to release a Sentinels of the Multiverse version of their storytelling party game – Sentinel Conflict. From the Kickstarter page:
Story War is all about using creativity and humor in impromptu storytelling to defeat your opponents! In Sentinel Conflict, each player will have a hand of Character cards and Item cards, and will use those heroes, villains, devices, and equipment to assemble the best team to take on the other players!
In a game of Sentinel Conflict, each team will have three Characters in play. Each team will also get to add one item for their characters to use, usually after a bit of exposition about why their team is already great and how this item makes them even better! Each conflict takes place in an Environment, and both teams would be wise to take advantage of the various elements of that Environment, weaving it into their stories about why their team of three Characters will win.
This Kickstarter is centered on the game, but there’s more to see. Most notably is the first published comic book centered around the Sentinels – Cosmic Contest. You can pledge for just the game, just the comic book, or both. Stretch goals are already being teased as well. The project is EU friendly and will fund on January 8 so stop by their campaign page here and see if this appeals to the storyteller in you.
