sandbox

For those familiar with Minecraft the video game, you will know it is a sandbox-style game. Ravensburger has collaborated with Mojang to create Minecraft: Builders and Biomes as a board game! Designed by Ulrich Blum, this game is for 2-4 players that can be played within 30-60 minutes.

Players will compete to gain the most points by the end of the game by mining rare cubes, fighting dangerous mobs, and building structures as they explore the Overworld. Collecting weapons and using resources mined from a block of 64 cubes will aid players in ensuring a victory!

Pre-orders for this game is available now. For more information, click here.

Code 3, by Black Key Games and designed by Brandon Byler and Matt Ruggiero, is a cooperative, sandbox-style game for 2-4 players!

Each player will choose two police officers to be Beat Partners and combine them to make their own unique deck. In this story-driven game, players will choose a scenario and set up a modular board of city tiles an then it’s time to kick down some doors! Players will need to complete goals to unveil the next part of the story, but if too many 911 calls aren’t answered, the game is lost. The way these scenarios are up to the players! They can either play by the books or bend the rules.

Black Key Games is also hosting a Cyber Cop Challenge in which every copy of the game comes with a scenario checklist. If you beat them all, you will be mailed a reward of The Cyber Cop and his unique deck of officer cards!

tiny epic quest

Gamelyn Games has announced the latest game in the Tiny Epic line, Tiny Epic Quest, designed by Scott Almes and illustrated by legendary artist Miguel Coimbra (7 Wonders, Smallworld).  Tiny Epic Quest sends players into a sandbox adventure reminiscent of classic games like Final Fantasy and The Legend of Zelda.  In the game, players will control a band of three elf heroes questing to save the world, and the sacred mushroom folk, from intruding goblins as the heroes travel across the realm.

The game is divided up into two phases: the Day and Night phases.  During the Day, the heroes will obtain quests, learn spells, and find rare artifacts that will imbue the heroes with special abilities.  During the night, players must “face the challenges of their quests, and decisions, by rolling dice, hoping for fortune, and knowing when to quit. Will you press on? Or is it time to save your progress and rest? Tomorrow is another day.”

Tiny Epic Quest will launch on Kickstarter on October 28, 2016.  For more information, visit the game’s entry on BoardGameGeek.com.
