It happened again.  Another small publisher was robbed at the Essen Spiel Fair.  You may remember that it was only a couple of years ago that LudiCreations fell victim to an unscrupulous thief who stole their cash box at Essen.  The silver lining to the whole event was the rapid creation of and overwhelming support on Kickstarter for Steal This GameSteal This Game was a tongue-in-cheek theme reflective of the incident inflicted on LudiCreation at Essen.

This time, the thieves targeted Artipia Games, ironically while they were running demos of their new game, A Thief’s Fortune.  Like so many outstanding game publishers, Artipia’s personnel were being ever attentive to their customers and fans.  The thieves took advantage of Artipia’s customer engagement to create a distraction while an accomplice stole the cash register.  Artipia acted quickly, resulting in one arrest but not the recovery of the stolen cash. Thankfully, no one was hurt.  Artipia Games reflected on the incident:

“Our shock and financial loss left a very sour taste in our mouth. Artipia Games is a family indie game publishing business and the sales we make at the Essen fair play an important role in our survival.”

To cut their losses, Artipia Games is running a Kickstarter Campaign for five specially designed promo cards for A Thief’s Fortune, Fields of Green, Kitchen Rush, The Pursuit of Happiness, and Whoosh: Bounty Hunters.  In what is becoming a tradition in our hobby, the theme of these promos is also a tongue-in-cheek reflection of the incident. There are no plans to reprint these promos; there were made only for this Kickstarter campaign to offset the losses from the theft.  The boardgame community has always pulled together in camaraderie and compassion in times of need. Whether you decide to back the Kickstarter for the promos or make a small donation, your support will be greatly appreciated.

The Dice Tower’s 13th season fundraiser is going strong on Indiegogo and you still have the chance to be able to support them.  While all content put out by The Dice Tower is completely free, there are still significant costs that are incurred to keep the content and quality at current levels.  So each year they reach out to the board gaming community to help fund them for another year, and maybe even improve things like bringing on more people or purchasing better equipment.

As with previous years they are also offering tons of great promos in return for your support during the campaign.  Some awesome ones include a new character for Champions of Midgard featuring that awesome host, Jason Levine.  Then there is the promo for Ice Cool, because normal penguin ID cards are boring, you’ve got to have the Dice Tower crew in penguin costumes instead!  Or you can even gets some more murder method cards for Deception: Murder in Hong Kong, featuring the absolutely deadly….deck of cards?  Any way you slice it, supporting The Dice Tower will help them keep going and get you some great promos for your games, so check out the campaign on Indiegogo today.

Funding for the 13th season of The Dice Tower is now alive and running on Indiegogo right now! The Dice Tower, and Dice Tower News by extension, can only operate on the generosity of all of our readers, viewers, and fans. It is through your kindness and support that we are able to bring to you all the latest in board gaming releases and reviews. Plus, the money made through these fundraisers allows the Dice Tower to grow and better serve the board gaming community with increased quality and content.

As with every year, the fundraiser offers awesome incentives for donations in the form of gamer swag, promos, and exclusives! This year is no exception, as there are a ton of promos for hot games that have released in the past few years. Some notable examples to get excited about are promotional cards for Scythe, Millennium Blades, Onitama, Coup, Clank, Adrenaline, 7 Wonders: Duel, and many many more! We can’t forget the awesome figures and cards coming from Cool Mini or Not: Chuck for Arcadia Quest: Pets and  Eric Summerer for Zombicide: Black Plague.

Of course there is always the option to donate however much you want regardless of perks, as any and all support is greatly appreciated. Rodney Smith, widely considered the nicest guy in board games has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support Watch It played for another year. Watch It Played is a YouTube channel that’s main focus is to teach viewers how to play games, and does it well. The channel also releases a significant number of game play videos in which viewers are asked to participate by helping make decisions for the players between episodes.

Here, Rodney explains why he’s asking for support:

“I have had the privilege of working on Watch It Played full time because of the support of my family, sponsors and viewers like yourself. The money I make from the show is how I contribute financially to my family, which allows me to keep creating videos.

If you have enjoyed some of the videos we create, please consider making a donation and claiming a perk!”

This year if the campaign is successful, extra funds will be used to:

  • Organize a live-streamed day of game playing
  • Support Pep MacDonald’s ongoing contributions to the Channel
  • Update the set and acquire better equipment

As with any crowdfunding campaign, Rodney is offering Perks to those who support Watch It Played. These perks include game promo’s such as a playable Rodney character for Dead of Winter by Plaid Hat Games; FLGS location card for 51st State from Portal Games; a Scythe encounter card from Jamey Stegmaier; Above and Below Building from Ryan Laukat, and a limited quantity of last year’s Promo’s. Also, as my favorite available perk, you could be listed as a Producer at the end of Watch It Played videos, and get early access to game play content.

This is Rodney’s only fundraiser for the year, so if you’re looking to offer your support, check out the IndieGoGo Campaign now.
