Paul Dennen, the designer of Clank!, is following up that hit title with Eternal: Chronicles of the Throne, also being published by Renegade Game Studio in conjunction with Dire Wolf Digital. The new game promises to combine both deck-building and a strategy card game in a tabletop game that replicates the world of the digital game.
Eternal: Chronicles of the Throne plays 2-4 players, ages 12 and up, in about 30-45 minutes. The players are trying to gain control of the Eternal Throne by recruiting allies, attacking their enemies, researching spells, building up their defenses, and acquiring relics.

Renegade Game Studios is bringing another expansion to Clank! in Space this November. Cyber Station 11 will bring a new game board, a new villain (Commander Preon), and new powers. Commander Preon is all about cybernetic enhancements, and her cyberware will allow players to gain abilities that last the rest of the game. There are also executive escape pods, in the form of tokens, that players can use to make their getaway.
Clank! in Space was designed by Paul Dennen. Its first expansion, Apocalypse!, was designed by Evan Lorentz and Andy Clautice. Cyber Station 11 is designed by Evan Lorentz and Tim McKnight. The latter has designed two expansions for regular Clank!: Gold and Silk, as well as Temple of the Ape Lords.
Renegade Game Studios and Dire Wolf Digital have announced their compilation project, Eternal: Chronicle of the Throne. Chronicles of the Throne by designer Paul Dennen, is a combination deck building game and strategy card battler which could only have been created by the combined efforts of these two studios. In the game, 2-4 players will “experience fast-paced gameplay as they attack, block, and summon creatures in back and forth CCG-style combat.”
Renegade Game Studios and designer Paul Dennen, are the brains behind the immensely popular games Clank! A Deck Building Adventure and Clank! In! Space! Both of the Clank! games managed to take deck building to a new level, using it as a mechanism in a fantasy board game. Much like deck builders Dominion and Legendary, players can use symbols on their cards to move on the board, buy new cards, or fight monsters. However, the price for many played cards is noise – “CLANK!”, which draws the ire of the dragon below. Players need to judge how deep to delve, trying to collect better and better artifacts, while avoiding becoming the increasingly angry dragon’s wrath.
Dire Wolf Digital is the design team behind Eternal, a popular digital CCG on iOS, Android and Steam. Eternal takes place in a world “where six-guns and sorcery combine”. Much like the heralded Hearthstone and Magic the Gathering Arena, in Eternal players collect cards and construct digital decks for head to head battle. Players use power cards to summon units and cast spells, trying to dominate each other. Eternal: Chronicles of the Throne takes place in this fantastical world, populated by all the art from the digital card game.
From the press release – “Found your own franchise of the legendary adventuring company Acquisitions Incorporated, and shepherd your fledgling treasure-hunters to immortal corporate glory over the course of multiple games.”
“The evil Lord Eradikus has all but conquered the galaxy and is now on a victory lap across the sector in his flagship, Eradikus Prime. He may rule with an iron grip, but his most prized artifacts are about to slip through his cyborg claws. You and your fellow thieves have challenged each other to sneak aboard his ship, hack your way into its command module, and steal from him.”
“Along the way, you’ll recruit allies and snatch up extra loot. But one false step and — Clank! Careless noise draws the attention of Lord Eradikus. Hacking into his command module and stealing his artifacts increases his rage. You’d better hope your friends are louder than you are if you want to make it to an escape pod and get out alive…”[source]
Clank! In! Space! is built on the same game system as Clank!: A Deck-Building Adventure. Players build a personal deck of cards while playing the game and these cards allow them to move through the spaceship, attack things, and acquire new cards. Running around the ship doing these things makes noise which attracts Lord Eradikus and his attention brings the players doom.

The Clank! base game had players attempting to sneak into an angry dragon’s mountain lair to steal artifacts using push-your-luck and deck-building mechanics. The deeper the delve the more valuable loot, but the more likely players would be to create noise which would attract the attention of the dragon. Acquire cards for your deck and watch your thievish abilities grow. Noisy players can get eliminated, and you only enjoy your treasures if you make it out of the depths alive! Released October 2016, less than a year ago, Clank! was immediately expanded with Clank! Sunken Treasures which took players underwater with a similar theme and mechanics.
Clank! has made the short list of a variety of awards in 2016, winning a Mensa Select Award and getting nominated for a variety of other awards including:
