Narcos

Cool Mini or Not has a big batch of new products coming very soon. Announced via press release, CMON has updated their release schedule to show a large number of titles all being available for retail in time for Christmas. With such a wide variety of games suitable for players of all preferences, it’s safe to say this is one publisher ready to please for the holidays. The following list of games are all slated to release on November 23rd:

  • Narcos, the cooperative board game based on the hit Netflix original, pits players as characters from the show trying to manage a growing narcotics empire.
  • Newton, one of the hottest euro-games of the year, has players take on the role of young scientists following in the footsteps of the greatest minds of 17th century by traveling Europe, studying, earning money, developing new tools for the pursuit of knowledge.
  • Both versions of Railroad Ink, a striking roll-and-write challenging players to build networks on an ever shrinking dry-erase board of options. Each version includes two unique expansions, and both versions can be combined to mix up the options and the fun.
  • The Grizzled, Armistice edition, is the new CMON re-release of the favorite cooperative game now featuring a campaign mode and pre-painted miniatures.
  • 5 new products for A Song of Ice and Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game. A Night’s Watch Starter Set brings many of the brave and grizzled watchers of the wall to the table, and they pave the way for 4 new add-on packs – The Sworn Brothers, the Ranger Hunters, the Stark Outriders, and the Lannister Halberdiers.

Victorian Masterminds, on the other hand, is an exception and is instead slated to release January 25th, 2019. The hotly anticipated game from Eric Lang and Antoine Bauza where players take on the roles of famous villains attempting to realize their nefarious plans is only a few months away yet I’m positive the wait is well worth it. Of course all dates listed here are subject to change, which is par for the course as many of the titles listed here have had their street dates revised at least once before. If you’re interested in learning more about any of these releases, or further release updates from CMON, be sure to check out their website for announcements and details.

CMON have teamed up with Gaumont, the producer of Narcos, to design and publish Narcos: The Board Game, based on the Emmy and Golden Globe award-nominated series.

“Currently in production for season 4, Narcos chronicles the true-life rise to power of drug lords and the explosion of cocaine trafficking in the world. Narcos continues to grow in popularity around the world, with season 3 premiering as the most in-demand digital original in the U.S. and one of the top five worldwide according to Parrot Analytics. Available for viewing on the world’s most popular streaming service, Netflix, the show is currently available in over 130 countries.” [source]

Narcos: The Board Game is designed by Fel Barros (known for The World of SMOG: Rise of Moloch), and Renato Silva Sasdelli (known for Mafia). The series most powerful characters and factions are represented by 2-5 players who rewrite the story behind the rise and fall of El Patrón. One person acts as El Patrón, managing a growing narcotics empire while trying to keep their location on the board a secret. The remaining players lead the hunter factions such as the D.E.A., Policía Nacional de Colombia, Cali Cartel, and the guerrilla extremist group. The separate factions work together to find El Patrón and win if they find him. El Patrón wins if he is able to evade the hunters and fulfill his secret objectives.

David Preti, CMON’s Creative Director:

“Working with Gaumont to bring Narcos to the tabletop has been an incredible adventure. Every aspect of this game is carefully coordinated with the Gaumont team to ensure that the show fans love is brought to life on the tabletop unlike anyone could have imagined, while also appealing to players who have never seen the show.”

Tim Stephen, Head of Legal and Business Affairs at Gaumont:

“CMON is known for its focus on high-quality and engaging games and we trust them to develop and design the first Narcosboard game title that will allow our millions of Narcos fans to immerse themselves within the storylines and characters of the show.”

Narcos: The Board Game is scheduled for release in Q4 of 2018. You can find out more information in CMON’s press release.
