The Colonists is the latest game coming from Mayfair games, and this time it’s a heavy weight city building type game. In The Colonists your goal is to have 100% employment, so you will have to build houses to attract population, then educate that population, and then develop jobs for them. This is accomplished through worker placement on a central board and further tension is added with the fact that resources are limited, so you have to keep a sharp eye on your spending. The game comes packed with a sort of scenario system as there are four eras you can build your cities in, or you can play over a campaign starting in the earliest era and progressing along to the next after each game. There are also different levels of complexity included for each so the game can be anywhere from 30 minutes for beginners, to 180 minutes for veterans of the game.
So if you are in the mood for a nice, crunchy, heavy weight euro, look for The Colonists on store shelves this month.

The winners of the prestigious Spiel Des Jahres and Kennerspiel Des Jahres have been announced.
Codenames by designer Vlaada Chvatil published by Czech Games Editions won the Spiel Des Jahres (German for Game of the Year). This team party game has seen great success thus far having one a number of Dice Tower Awards as well. Having already picked up placement in Target stores this award can only aid in its uptake with the non-hobby gaming public. This win was not overly surprising as a result of the overwhelming popularity seen by the aforementioned items.
Isle of Skye: From Chieftan to King by designers Andreas Pelikan and Alexander Pfister Published by Mayfair Games/Lookout Games won the Kennerspiel Des Jahres (German for Connoisseur Game of the Year). This game has received critical acclaim from many within the gaming community. This win was more surprising as a result of the competition it received from both Pandemic Legacy: Season 1 and T.I.M.E. First up, in May, is a revamped base version of Agricola for 1-4 players featuring an updated, streamlined version of the classic game by Uwe Rosenberg. This version will feature a ‘greatest hits’ deck of cards comprising of the best cards from the base game and expansions – newly revised for this version.
Later in 2016 we will see the Family Edition – acting as a gateway to it’s big brother. Designed for more casual players and families, this version also accomodates 1-4 players and promises to play in under 90 minutes and features no cards, providing a more streamlined experience.
And then finally, in late 2016, we will see a 5-6 player expansion which adds wooden components for an extra 2 players to your base game, making it play up to 6 players, as well as even more handpicked cards to add even more variation to your game.
There are plans to make the new, revised cards available separately for those players of the existing versions.
