Legendary is a deckbuilder that people just cannot get enough of and it seems like Upper Deck Entertainment is more than ready to feed the cravings. Recently released Marvel Legendary Villains, the spin-off to Marvel Legendary with a focus on the bad guys, is getting an expansion titled Legendary Villains: Fear Itself. According to the description on BGG…
With the Legendary Villains: Fear Itself expansion for Legendary and Legendary: Villains, you can play through the “Fear Itself” storyline from Marvel Comics. This expansion consists of six new allies from The Worthy: Kuurth, Mul, Skirn, Nerkkod, Greithoth and Skadi; one new adversary group; one new commander; and three new plots.
Now you can battle Iron Man in his Uru Enchanted Armor with your friends and embrace the villains of the Marvel universe. Look for Legendary Villains: Fear Itself in stores in 2015.
Just last week, Will Wheaton, host of the popular Internet program Tabletop, took a few moments with Jason Guerrasio of Esquire magazine to discuss his “top five tabletop games of all time.”
Wheaton eventually settled on five games that were hot for him at the present moment:
The Resistance: Avalon
Legendary: A Marvel Deck-Building Game
Lords of Waterdeep
In this article, Wheaton briefly discusses each of these games, outlining their basic concepts as well as what he likes about each. However, he made no attempt to rank these in any significant order:
“I can’t rank these and I’ll tell you why,” positioning himself in his chair like he’s discussing a pressing bureaucratic issue. “When I sit down to play a game like Love Letter, I’m expecting a different experience than when I sit down to play Lords of Lockleep [Waterdeep]. And when I play Cards Against Humanity I want a different experience than when I play Apples to Apples. We play different games for different reasons.”

ICv2 reports that WizKids Games will be releasing X-Men: Mutant Revolution March 2015. Game play will be based on Gale Force Nine’s Spartacus: A Game of Blood and Treachery and will be set in the aftermath of the Phoenix event. Players will take on the roles of Wolverine, of course, Cyclops, Magneto, and Storm. The BoardGameGeek page still looks pretty fresh but does have a little information…
X-Men Mutant Revolution Game is a head to head battle for the future of Mutant-kind where 2-4 players play as leaders of the Mutant schools.
- Based on the best selling Spartacus: A Game of Blood and Treachery from Gale Force Nine
- The X-Men: Mutant Revolution Game includes 4 character miniatures and Bidding dials featuring the Maneuver dial technology.
Listed components include 269 tokens, 157 cards, 4 character figures and bidding dials, and 24 dice. Pre-orders look to be scheduled for January and a March 15 release.
Calvin Patten, a participant in the Marvel Legendary Deck Building Championships at GenCon earlier this year, gives us an inside look at the event as he documents it from start to finish.
There was only one Legendary event at GenCon this year and 1st place would take home an Iron Man trophy along with a $10,000 grand prize!
“I Woke up and started the day just like any other big event day. Planned ahead, knowing that the tournament starts at 10:00 am. After breakfast I made my way back to the room to get a little prep work withthe Villains set. So many things to take into account for the tournament. I have had my share of bigger events. Last year I had the chance to play in both of the Gen Cons 5K tournaments. I was able to make the top 10 the first one and top 25 the second one. This event is a little different as it is only (1) event and it is for $10,000. While coming in the top 5 would be great, I was really just looking to have fun as that much prize money brought out some serious gamers.”

Following up on our previous Dice Masters reveals here and here, Devir Américas comes through yet again with another Dice Masters leak, this time for the once-rumored Yu-Gi-Oh! set. As you can tell from the picture above, this looks to be your standard starter set, no doubt followed by an unstoppable tide of gravity feeds to fill out your collection (and drain your wallet).
So, one day we’ll be able to pit DC vs. Marvel vs….Yu-Gi-Oh? OK, then, Wizkids, throw every brand in existence our way and we’ll pit them all against each other in a no-holds-barred dice-chucking battle that will break the space-time continuum. Or our bank accounts.
The release date for this set appears to be January 28th, 2015, so you’ve still got time to siphon some money out of your Christmas fund to pay for it!
Following up on our previous post, it appears even more info has leaked regarding future Dice Masters releases, including a previously unheard of set (thus solving our missing fourth set mystery)!
The Reserve Pool has the scoop:
“You may have seen some of them on Facebook, but that’s not what I’m talking about. That’s newsworthy, but this is about the future! No, I’m talking about a friend of the blog who asked to be credited as Superdan567 about MANY upcoming cards and sets. Some of it involves things that we knew were coming, but now we have more concrete information about it.”
Wow – it pays to have spies in the industry, I guess! Click on over to the Reserve Pool post for more pics and info.
In case you’re keeping score at home, The Dice Masters slate for the future appears to be:
- Uncanny X-Men (announced)
- DC Dice Masters: Justice League (March 2015)
- D&D Dice Masters: Battle of Faerun (Spring 2015)
- Age of Ultron (Spring 2015)
So Age of Ultron appears to be the first movie tie-in, releasing nearly the same time as the next Avengers movie. Smart move, but where is my Guardians of the Galaxy Dice Masters, Wizkids?! Thankfully, there has been no further word on the rumored Yu-Gi-Oh set.
Spanish distributor Devir recently published details (mistakenly?) of an all new Dice Masters set coming to retailers March 2015 — DC Dice Masters: Justice League. There’s been no official word from Wizkids yet, but the information certainly looks legitimate. The DC set appears to follow the same publishing structure as the Marvel set, namely with a starter pack alongside gravity feeds with additional characters, dice, and actions.
The Devir website states in the product description:
“The DC Dice Masters: Justice League Starter Set is the fifth starter release for the Dice Masters game. This innovative collectible has everything two players need to play, and allows players to increase their Dice Masters collection or jump into the game fresh!”
Fifth starter release?! So far, we know only of the original Avengers vs. X-Men, the forthcoming Uncanny X-Men, and the unofficially announced D&D set — that’s only three sets that we know of, so apparently there’s a fourth that we can only speculate about. I guess we’ll have to wait until Wizkids decides to fill us in.
Until then, we can drool over the thought of pitting DC vs. Marvel (and the image above) until we get more details.
