Upper Deck Entertainment has announced that an expansion for Legendary Encounters: An Alien Deckbuilding Game is now available for preorder. Legendary Encounters: Alien Covenant plays 1-5 players, ages 17 and up, in 30-60 minutes. The expansion is designed by the same men that designed the base game, Ben Cichoski and Daniel Mandel.
Legendary Encounters: Alien Covenant “adds a new movies worth of material” to the base game. The new components include new characters, a new villain, and a new Hive.

Legendary is the cooperative deck building game system that Upper Deck created in order to have a core game with many different themes. Some of the notable themes include Aliens, Firefly, and Marvel. So when Upper Deck announced they were turning it into an app, people started getting excited at the prospect of a digital version. So Upper Deck has teamed up with the folks at SkyReacher Entertainment to develop the digital version of the Legendary system, this time with a fantasy theme called Legendary DXP. This means all new characters, art, some new mechanisms, and more, but all with the familiar workings of their core deck building system. Some highly desired features have been announced already including solo play, online play, playing with friends, and even a 5 player tournament mode called The Gauntlet. The art is already off to a great start given the look of the Beta Signup Page, and with that having been the biggest complaint on some legendary games, looking at you Firefly, hopes are high for a great digital implementation. So signup for the beta, or wait for the launch of the game in August.
The game that kicked off the Legendary Encounters series, Legendary Encounters: Alien, is finally getting an expansion. This expansion will do what everyone wants expansions to do and that is give us more stuff to play with and new adventures to be had. It will have 400 cards with original art, many of those cards will be legions of new Alien cards including more face huggers and more Alien queens. Also included will be additional characters that you can play as such as Lieutenant Gorman, Superintendent Andrews, Captain Elgyn, and Kane. Last, and certainly not least, this box will include a new game mat to use with the game that will allow you to play as the Alien Queen against those pesky humans. Look for this expansion to hit stores in September.
