Upper Deck Entertainment has just announced that they have acquired the rights to the iconic James Bond series of movies for both trading cards and board games. Master Spy James Bond, originally penned by author Ian Fleming, first appeared in movies in Dr. No in 1962, and has continued in more than 25 films since. “James Bond is one of the most iconic characters in the history of entertainment,” said Jason Masherah, President of Upper Deck. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to provide a new and unique line of James Bond trading cards and trading card games to fans around the world.” The exciting part of this announcement is the statement that Upper Deck will be making a 007 licensed Legendary deck building game. At this point it is unclear if the future game will be part of the original Legendary, or newer Legendary Encounters lines. The game is described as: “Players will be able to relive their favorite movie moments while working together to recruit their favorite characters and unravel the nefarious schemes of the most infamous 007 villains.”, suggesting the more cooperative nature of the Encounters series of games. Projected release date for the game is Summer 2019.
Upper Deck are pumping out Legendary content at a significant rate at the moment and Legendary: Venom, the 18th expansion, was probably inspired by the release of the recent Venom movie. This expansion requires a Legendary core set to play such as Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building Game. In Legendary, 1-5 players recruit heroes through deck building in order to defeat the mastermind and their henchmen.
The Legendary: Venom expansion adds 100 new cards from the Marvel Comics Venomverse team consisting of 5 venomized heroes, 2 masterminds (including Poison Thanos), 2 new villain groups, and 4 new schemes. The Excessive Violence keyword returns along with new game mechanisms and new twists on old ones. For example, when a Symbiote villain ambushes the city they could bond with another villain to create a powerful adversary.
This small box expansion will feature comic book artwork and is not part of the recent movie sets which have been released. The expected release date is February 13th, 2019.

Legendary fans rejoice, for the next expansion for the classic Marvel Deck Building Game is nigh, and it is both massive and minuscule – Legendary: Ant Man. The Ant Man expansion from designer Devin Low, and Upper Deck Entertainment, brings the world of Hank Pym’s Ant Man and The Wasp to the famous deck builder with 100 new cards, including 5 new heroes, 2 masterminds, 2 villain groups and 4 schemes. Not surprisingly, the “size-changing” keyword, previously used in Legendary: Civil War and Legendary: Champions is back, modifying costs and effects of other cards. The Ant Man Expansion brings this keyword to the very extreme with “Microscopic Size-Changing”, which can stack the keyword, sometimes as many as three times. This ability can reduce a cards recruit cost into negative values, allowing the player to gain recruit points by using it. The same can happen to a villain’s fight value, and a villain with a negative fight value actually gains the player more fight power. But be careful, the Microverse can be an unpredictable place where the very laws of physics do not make sense any more.

Upper Deck is making the biggest expansion for yet into the Marvel universe with the World War Hulk expansion for Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building Game arriving in stores this June (2018). The latest expansion will be based on some of the most iconic Hulk storylines published including Planet Hulk and World War Hulk.
Thrown off course and drained of strength, Hulk crash lands on the savage planet Sakaar. There, Hulk is chained and forced into gladiatorial servitude. Fighting for his life as his strength slowly grows,
Hulk forms a blood pact with an unlikely band of powerful alien gladiators: the Warbound. Together they rise through the ranks, pursue a death-defying series of journeys, and eventually rally the people of Sakaar to overthrow the tyrannical Red King.
For a moment, the newly-crowned King Hulk knows peace. But when an explosion from the Illuminati’s ship kills King Hulk’s new wife Caiera, Hulk is filled with a rage greater than ever before. He returns to Earth with his Warbound to punish the Illuminati for their crimes against him, even if he has to tear apart all of Earth’s super-teams to do it, and perhaps Earth itself.
World War Hulk will be the 16th expansion for Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building Game and will be the biggest expansion yet with four hundred new cards including Heroes, Masterminds, Schemes, and Villains.
This big box expansion has Marvel’s biggest characters, including Sentry, Hulk (both Bruce Banner and Amadeus Cho), and She-Hulk! It brings the new Warbound team faction to the forefront with plenty of new characters and some of the most exciting and challenging Masterminds and Schemes yet!

About Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building Game
Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building Game is a semi co-operative deck building game set in the Marvel universe.
One to five players will choose a villain and scheme to battle and then face off using a mixture of hero decks featuring iconic characters like Spider-Man, Hulk, Cyclops, and Wolverine.
During the game players will recruit hero cards to build a more powerful deck and increase their ability to battle the villains that are revealed and cause havoc through the game. As players defeat villains they collect villain cards that will be worth points at the end of the game. Once all of the mastermind cards have been claimed and the player with the most points wins. If the mastermind is able to complete their scheme before the players have defeated them all players lose the game together.
The game has been included in many of the The Dice Tower Top Ten Lists including:
Somewhere out there, a nerd is crying because I am about to talk about a DC Deck building release and Marvel Legendary release in the same article. Anyway, first of the two releases I will be talking about is the upcoming DC Deck Building Game: Confrontations. This is a stand alone game and plays similar to the Rivals set where it was Batman vs. Joker, but expands the roster on both sides and expands the player count up to 2 vs 2. On the heroes side you will be able to choose from Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, or Zatanna, and on the villain side you will have your choice of Lex Luthor, Circe, Ocean Master, or Felix Faust. You can even combine this with the Rivals set to expand the options and gameplay. You can read more about the upcoming release on Cryptozoic’s website, and look for it on store shelves towards the end of the month.
The second release we have is from Upper Deck for Marvel Legendary, and that’s Marvel Legendary: Champions. This set takes it’s heroes and cards from a very recent addition to the comic book universe, specifically the Champions series which debuted at the end of last year. This set will bring in a selection of younger heroes with a more cooperative and less violent bent to them. You will see the return of the keyword Versatile, as well as the addition of a new keyword, Cheering Crowds (yes it’s two words but work with me here). The cheering crowds mechanics allows you to return a bystander you rescued to be able to activate that card a second time, opening up new options for gameplay. There are also lots of new strategies to be had with characters like Viv Vision being able to rescue bystanders while recruiting. So if this sounds like something you want to add to your Legendary collection, look for it on store shelves in early 2018, and you can check out Upper Deck’s website for more information.
Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building Game has seen its (more than) fair share of expansions since 2012. By now, it may be safe to assume that every major, and many minor, Marvel characters are part of the Legendary universe, but Upper Deck is not stopping there. Its 14th expansion will now introduce characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man Homecoming!
Five new heroes, 2 Villain groups, 2 new Masterminds, and 4 new Schemes allow players to recreate the storyline of the hit blockbuster film in deck building form. Overall, 100 new cards featuring Spider-Man, Iron Man, Vulture, and other characters from the silver screen are expected to enter the Legendary pool on October 18, 2017. Visit the publisher’s page for more information.
Upper Deck is bringing the largest Legendary expansion to date, Legendary: X-Men. With almost 400 cards, Legendary: X-Men brings a plethora of new mechanisms and characters to the table. New Heroic Bystanders will join the team after being rescued. New Schemes, Heroes and Masterminds, and even an Epic Mastermind come straight from the comic. Play with Psylocke, Beast, Banshee, Cannonball, Dazzler, Legion, and more. Legendary: X-Men comes with 15 new Heroes, 6 new Villain groups, 6 new Masterminds, and 4 new Henchmen.
Legendary: X-Men is due to hit stores in June 2017.
Everyone’s favorite anti-hero is getting the deck building treatment in a new expansion for Marvel Legendary called Legendary: Deadpool. This new expansion will be a small box expansion, so you will need to have the base game, and boasts a count of 100 cards to add to your game. So far nothing new in the form of mechanics or abilities have been released but the expansion does boast 5 new heroes, 2 new villain groups, 2 new masterminds, and 4 new schemes. Another aspect that will make this set stand out, aside from the Deadpool focus, is that all cards will have unique art, including the different cards of the same hero. So now instead of the same art on the same character cards, now each one will be different in both it’s card ability and it’s appearance. Look forward to this expansion to hit store shelves in October.
In case you were wondering, no, this is not some spin-off to the Legendary card game, this is a cool new way to roll dice. Legendary Dice Throwers do exactly as the name implies, throws dice to roll them. There are three different styles you can choose from that chuck the dice in a different way, and they are a catapult, a crossbow, and a hammer. The catapult and the crossbow are both actuated by rubber bands and the hammer just uses good old gravity to throw the dice.
Operation is easy as you load up the hopper with your dice, and then you will send them flying. Thankfully they include a castle tray that you can hook the throwers on to, that way you can coral your thrown dice instead of them going everywhere. On the videos they provide the actions look smooth and the designs on the throwers and tray look awesome. Head on over to the Kickstarter page to get your very own Legendary Dice Thrower, and make all your dice tower using friends jealous.
Upper Deck continues to show the versatility of their Legendary deck building system with their latest set based off the cult movie classic, Big Trouble in Little China. Play will be much the same as others but with schemes based around the movie plot and also gives you the ability to play as Jack Burton, Gracie Law, Wang Chi and even the Pork Chop Express. This set will be a stand alone core set with everything you need to play, look for it on shelves August of 2016.
Next is another game based on a cult movie classic and that is The Crow: Fire it Up! Not much has been released about the game except for this short excerpt;
Set on Devil’s Night in the Motor City, play as Eric Draven as he dishes out revenge against the Motor City gang that took his life and the life of his fiancé, Shelly, the night before their wedding day one year prior.
Eric Draven uses the help of Officer Albrecht, Sarah and the mysterious Crow to track down the Motor City Gang.
The opposing players use the Motor City Gang, consisting of Tin-Tin, Funboy, T-Bird, Grange, Myca and Top Dollar to try and spread fires throughout the Motor City and also take out Eric.
Look for it to arrive on store shelves in September of 2016.
