Dice Hate Me Games and Greater Than Games have announced that they will be merging.  These two companies will be joined together under the Greater Than Games name with Dice Hate Me Games being an imprint.  This should have little impact on the consumer since both companies are attesting going itno this merger that they wil be maintaining their same catalog.  From a practical perspective this merger makes a lot of sense since Greater Than Games has already been doing warehousing and shipping for both companies.

As a result of the merger both companies can streamline some of the redundant operations which should have a positive effect on customer service.  Additionally they will be launching a new imprint Fabled Nexus which will be featuring Sci-fi and fantasy titles.  They will also be maintaining the Sentinel Comics imprint featuring all of the games in the Sentinels universe.

The first title being released by the joint company which is “Bottom of the 9th” will be launching on Kickstarter Sunday March 1st.

Company press release below

Greater Than Games and Dice Hate Me Games, two respected publishers in the tabletop gaming industry, are proud to announce that, as of Thursday, February 26, they will be coming together as one publishing entity.

While the structure of the companies may be changing, the quality of their products and customer service will not be. Greater Than Games has already been warehousing and shipping for both, and coming together as one publisher is a natural fit.

Dice Hate Me Games will become an imprint under the Greater Than Games name, along with two other imprints: Sentinel Comics and Fabled Nexus. The Dice Hate Me Games imprint will encompass previous Dice Hate Me Games titles, such as VivaJava: The Coffee Game and Compounded, as well as future products that fit the feel that fans expect. The Sentinel Comics imprint will include games such as Sentinels of the Multiverse, Sentinel Tactics, and future games set in the same comic book universe. Fabled Nexus will be a new imprint covering highly thematic science fiction and fantasy games.

There are no staffing changes accompanying the merger. All current employees of Greater Than Games and Dice Hate Me Games will continue in their current positions, while being able to draw upon the additional resources of the merged company.

There are several upcoming products that have been announced by both publishers, and this merger will not change those releases. The ongoing preorders for Sentinels of the Multiverse and Sentinel Tactics products are unaffected, as are future project launches such as Monster Truck Mayhem and Spirit Island.

March 1 will see the first joint project launch for Greater Than Games and Dice Hate Me Games. Bottom of the 9th, a two player baseball themed game, will be coming to Kickstarter. Bottom of the 9th, designed by Darrell Louder (veteran designer of Compounded) and Mike Mullins, is a fastpaced dice and card game for 1 or 2 players that boils the excitement of baseball’s final inning into a quick head to head competition between an ace pitcher and a starstudded lineup of heavy hitting batters. Bottom of the 9th will feature over 20 custom player cards with beautiful custom art from veteran artist Adam McIver that capture the look and feel of classic baseball trading cards. Tons of variable player powers, myriad customizable lineups, the possibility of two added expansion packs, and rules for advanced league and solo play will keep gamers wanting to play ball time and time again.

In the wake of the successful rollout of their latest expansion for the Sentinels of the Multiverse card game, Wrath of the Cosmos, Greater Than Games has announced another upcoming expansion, Villains of the Multiverse!

Villains of the Multiverse is a collection of ten super-powered villains for Sentinels of the Multiverse. Rather than being standalone villains, they work as part of a team of villains in the playstyle introduced in Sentinels of the Multiverse: Vengeance. Additionally, Villains of the Multiverse includes two new environments, which can be used in any Sentinels of the Multiverse game.

In addition to this new expansion, Greater Than Games has also announced a new standalone set for Sentinel Tactics, Battle for Broken City, and an accompanying expansion for this new set, For Profit.

Sentinel Tactics: Battle for Broken City is a standalone game using the Sentinel Tactics system. It can be played on its own or be combined with Sentinel Tactics: The Flame of Freedom and Uprising. It will include new playable characters, map tiles, and scenario books. The For Profit expansion contains additional characters and scenarios involving content from both the Flame of Freedom and Battle for Broken City core games.

A preorder period for these three titles-as well as for accessories such as villain oversized cards-will begin on January 19th and will last until March 12th, 2015.  GTG expects all preorders to be delivered by the end of 2015 and plans to release them in waves.

For more information on these new titles and the preorder system, check out the Greater Than Games website here.

story war

Greater Than Games pulled the plug on their latest Sentinels of the Multiverse project on Kickstarter, Story War: Sentinel Conflict. With just a few days left and only 70% of funding in place, Christopher Badell (Game Design Director) and his team made the difficult design to cancel the project.

“We had hoped there would be interest in a Sentinel Comics version of Story War, as we had played and enjoyed Story War. However, the response here, on our website and others, and on social media has been clear: Story War is not a direction people are interested in seeing the Multiverse go.”

While Story War and a comic series might not be the right fit for Sentinels of the Multiverse, fans continue to show a lot of interest in more Sentinels content. Badell notes the recent Challenges and Achievements release, and that shipping has begun for Wrath of the Cosmos. There are also planned Sentinels Tactics tournaments and Multiverse Month, an organized play event throughout January.

sentinel comic contents

Sentinels of the Multiverse, from Greater than Games, is growing into a powerful IP with a host of expansions to the original game as well as the recently released tactical miniatures game, Sentinel Tactics: The Flame of Freedom.  Taking it a step further, the team at GTG is partnering with Cantrip Games, the makers of Story War, to release a Sentinels of the Multiverse version of their storytelling party game – Sentinel Conflict.  From the Kickstarter page:

Story War is all about using creativity and humor in impromptu storytelling to defeat your opponents! In Sentinel Conflict, each player will have a hand of Character cards and Item cards, and will use those heroes, villains, devices, and equipment to assemble the best team to take on the other players!

In a game of Sentinel Conflict, each team will have three Characters in play. Each team will also get to add one item for their characters to use, usually after a bit of exposition about why their team is already great and how this item makes them even better! Each conflict takes place in an Environment, and both teams would be wise to take advantage of the various elements of that Environment, weaving it into their stories about why their team of three Characters will win.

This Kickstarter is centered on the game, but there’s more to see.  Most notably is the first published comic book centered around the Sentinels – Cosmic Contest.  You can pledge for just the game, just the comic book, or both.  Stretch goals are already being teased as well.  The project is EU friendly and will fund on January 8 so stop by their campaign page here and see if this appeals to the storyteller in you.
