GAMA Trade Show

Smirk and Dagger are shifting into overdrive with game releases this year, and one of them is the new real-time game Paramedics Clear!  This is a game all about saving lives, a bit of a departure from the normal back-stabby type games that Smirk and Dagger are known for.  However, from the comments on the announcement, this doesn’t seem to be a cooperative game as there are opportunities to mess with your fellow players.  Needless to say it looks like an interesting game, and those attending GAMA this week will be able to preview it before it’s release later this year.

ra board

Asmodee gave an exciting new announcement this week at the GAMA Trade Show in Las Vegas: a new edition of Reiner Knizia’s fast-paced auction game, Ra.  In the game, players compete to build the best Ancient Egyptian civilization by using actions to acquire tiles.  Tiles collected represent cultural achievements, architectural wonders, Ancient Egyptian deities, and even the Nile itself.  Player turns involve either adding to the pool of tiles or “invoking Ra” to hold an auction to bid on tiles.  The player with the most points at the end of the game is the winner.  The game is for 2-5 players and plays in under an hour.

The game will be released by a new publishing studio in the Asmodee Group, WindRider Games.  This new edition features an all new graphic design based on the art of Ancient Egypt, and is the third game in the Euro Classics line, which WindRider is taking over from Fantasy Flight Games.

Steven Kimball, head of WindRider Games, expressed his excitement that Ra would be WindRider’s first release.  “It’s one of Dr. Knizia’s most beloved designs because of its high amount of player interaction and the difficult decisions that create tense, dramatic gaming moments,” said Kimball.

Ra is scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2016.

Ares Games will preview four new games at the GAMA trade show (March 14-18).

brick party

Are you better at building with plastic bricks… or explaining how to do it? What if you have to build with your eyes closed or using only one hand? What if you must explain it without speaking? Can you still be faster than your opponents?

Renegade Game Studios will be partnering with Italian publisher Post Scriptum to bring Brick Party to North America.  Brick Party is a “funny and frenzied game of crazy building”, in which players will reveal special rules for each round, choose a teammate, grab the blocks and build the shape you choose faster than the others players.

“We are really excited to be working with Mario and his team at Post Scriptum,” says Renegade President Scott Gaeta. “They put together something really special and we look forward to bringing it to gamers in North America.”

Brick Party will be available in stores in the early summer of 2016.  The games plays in 15-30 minutes and is for 2-9 players ages 5+.  It will be featured at the GAMA Trade Show in March of 2016 and will be available for preorder at the show.

Straight from the GTS Distribution Trade Show in Atlanta 2015 we have some excellent news to share with you all:

Arcane Wonders, makers of the Dice Tower Essentials line, have announced that a Sheriff of Nottingham expansion is under development and is being designed by our Capo, Tom Vasel, and fellow designers Steve Avery and Zee Garcia.

Now that AEG has finished their trio of vehicle games, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, they now turn their attention to expanding the three games.  Interestingly they are opting to release a single expansion that will contain modules to expand the three different games instead of three different expansions so look forward to this.

Marvel Legendary is the deck building game that keeps on going and there is no plan to stop now with the announcement of Legendary Captain America.  Expect to see this small box expansion from Upper Deck in 2016.

Have you been itching to get some Cthulhu in your war game?  Well you won’t have to wait much longer as Shadows over Normandie from Iello is set to release on November 12th.

Fluxx, the game with more variations than Love Letter, has just passed the 2 million Fluxx games sold mark, so toss Andy Looney and the folks at Looney Labs a congratulations for reaching this amazing milestone.

Hot on the heels of the release of T.I.M.E. Stories, the folks over at Space Cowboys have stated they intend to provide a new scenario for the game every quarter, making sure you don’t get bored of playing the same scenario over and over.

That’s it for now, but loads more news will be coming as the show goes on so keep watching here or the Dice Tower twitter feed.

Anyone who has come to the Dice Tower News website over the last two weeks has seen a myriad of articles talking about product releases and the future product lines from some of our favorite game publishers.  GAMA the Game Manufacturers Association has released their post GAMA Trade Show recap.  This years show has exhibited the healthy growth of the game industry.

“The GAMA Trade show would not be possible without the support of our show sponsors, exhibitors, GAMA Board, volunteers, and of course, our retail attendees, We are committed to providing great learning and business opportunities for all of our members.” John Ward, Executive Director of GAMA.

While fewer stores were able to attend this year there was an 8% increase in total attendance over last year.  They have identified that the demand for the presentation programs have been met with much success and are anticipated to grow even more.  In addition to those successes they have added 18 exhibitor booths.  While our industry has seen some consolidation over the last year that is quite common in any healthy industry and is what opens up the opportunities for upstarts to find inroads for the gaps between the big players.
