Fantasy Flight

Love it or hate it, the board game Talisman is an important part of modern dungeon-crawl board game history. First produced in 1983 by Games Workshop and designer Robert Harris, Talisman is a roll and move game with multitudes of characters to play, items to find, monsters to slay, and expansions galore. The game has seen versions migrate through various companies, most notably the 4th edition published by Fantasy Flight Games jointly with Games Workshop. After the split between those two companies in 2017, the future of the game franchise was unknown, but a recent press release has revealed that the newest publisher to jointly produce the “Magical Quest Game” will be USAopoly. Details are few, but it does appear to be the nostalgic game back again from the dead, rather than the offshoot game recently released from Pegasus Spiele. However, the press release discusses “two new licensed editions”, which could mean Harry Potter, Disney, or even James Bond, all of which have been put into games by USAopoly in the past. For more details, check out the official press release from the New York Toy Fair.

Star Wars: X-Wing enters the Clone Wars with Fantasy Flight’s latest wave of expansions.  Wave III introduces two new factions for the Clone Wars: the Galactic Republic and the Separatist Alliance.

Supporting the Separatist Alliance is the workhorse of the fleet: Servants of Strife Squadron Pack. This squadron pack contains a heavily armed Belbullab-22 starfighter and two Vulture-class droid fighters (painted in General Grievous’s colors).  Of course, you can always add additional Vulture-class droid fighters (in traditional tan color) which have their own expansion pack.  Lastly, Sith Infiltrator Expansion Pack gives the Separatist Alliance an opportunity to make stealthy and deadly strikes by agents of Darth Sidious, including Darth Maul!

On the Galactic Republic side, the Guardians of the Republic Squadron Pack provides the workhorse of the fleet. This squadron pack contains one Delta-7 Aethersprite (painted in Obi-Wan Kenobi’s colors) and two V-19 Torrent Starfighters.  While clone pilots fly the Starfighters, the Jedi Knights pilot the Delta-7s.  The ARC-170 Starfighter Expansion provides superior heavy fighter support for the Galactic Republic, which can add plenty more Jedi’s to the skies with the Delta-7 Aethersprite Expansion (in traditional yellow and grey colors).

Wave III also includes updated versions of two classic starfighters for Scum and Villainy and Galactic Empire factions. The Z-95-AF4 Headhunter Expansion sports an awesome looking black and yellow paint scheme and will be an imposing starship in any criminal fleet.  Lastly, TIE/sk Striker Expansion provides the Galactic Empire a nimble and deadly starfighter.

Horrors return anew at Arkham.  Fantasy Flight announces The Circle Undone, the fourth deluxe expansion for Arkham Horror: The Card Game.  In this campaign, investigators will dig into Arkham’s past, uncovering its history to learn more about the motives of those behind the current mysteries.  Like all deluxe expansions, The Circle Undone comes with two new scenarios and new investigator and players cards. What makes this expansion different is the inclusion of the prologue scenario “Disappearance at the Twilight Estate.”  Instead of beginning the campaign by taking your investigator straight to the first scenario, players will play as one of four people invited to an ill-fated charity event at an estate in French Hill. Each of these characters have their own unique abilities and skills, but they are not investigators and do not have a deck of additional cards. Players will have to work together in order to survive the night’s chaos and learn the secrets behind what has happened.

Featured in The Circle Undone is the new investigator Diana Stanley, a redeemed cultist who knows much about the prestigious order of the Silver Twilight Lodge, perhaps too much. Having recognized the twisted nature of the order and convinced that dark forces are in play, she works dismantled the order and frustrate their plans from the inside.  As a former cult member, Diana’s willpower is extremely weak, but her knowledge of the order protects her, allowing her to ignore or cancel many card effects.  With each successfully cancelled or ignored card, Diana grows bolder and her willpower increases to the point she can turn the Order’s attacks against itself.  Unfortunately, she carries a Terrible Secret that if ever revealed, she either forfeits her cards or suffers unspeakable horrors for each card she keeps.

Stay tuned to Fantasy Flight to learn more about The Circle Undone.

Fantasy Flight Games has announced the Super Star Destroyer Expansion Pack for Star Wars: Armada. Boosting the firepower of the Galactic Empire, this new ship measures over 24 inches from tip to tip. (Which really isn’t a miniature, is it?)

This pre-painted Super Star Destroyer is a fully functional warship that you can add to your Imperial fleet. The expansion pack also contains four unique ship sheets, a variety of tokens and twenty-four upgrade cards.

This massive ship marks the introduction of a new class of ships: huge ships. It is so large that it’s supported by one ship token placed on top of two standard large ship bases.

“This new class of ship has powers that reach far beyond mere size. For instance, the Super Star Destroyer features a total of six firing arcs—supplementing the standard front, rear, left, and right firing arcs with brand-new right-auxiliary and left-auxiliary firing arcs. And as you might expect, a huge ship like the Super Star Destroyer increases its attack powers to go with its extra firing arcs. The Super Star Destroyer can make up to three attacks from different firing arcs every round of the game.”

While its sheer size makes it a visually impressive demonstration of the strength of the Dark Side, there is even more menace packed into this expansion. Powerful upgrade cards, including the debut of Emperor Palpatine himself as a commander, will help Imperial players crush the filthy rebel scum in a massive show of unmatchable power.

Star Wars Armada has a Dice Tower Seal of Excellence. Click here to learn more about what the Dice Tower crew thinks about the game.

The Super Star Destroyer Expansion Pack is coming soon to a galaxy near you. Preordering is available and delivery is planned for early 2019.

An update to our story that Eurazeo had placed it’s stake in Asmodee up for sale – the unknown potential buyer has been announced. Released in a statement on Friday, Eurazeo is in discussions with PAI Partners, one of the largest private equity houses in Europe based in Paris, France. The sale, if it were to go forward, would have to go through an approval process as per French law and could be finalized by the end of 2018. The deal could mean a return of up to four times Eurazeo’s initial investment! We’ll post more information as the story develops.

Hot on the heels of the new Han Solo movie, Fantasy Flight Games has announced a new expansion for Star Wars: X-Wing (Second Edition): Lando’s Millennium Falcon.   This beautiful ship is a pristine customized YT-1300 Light Freighter in its original configuration owned by the smuggling duo, Lando Calrissian and Han Solo.  Lando’s Millennium Falcon is different from the Solo version we all know and love.  Lando’s Millennium Falcon sports a double turret arc providing effective protective fires, and it is equipped with the L3-37 escape craft that gives Lando’s Millennium Falcon the distinctive look that differs from Han Solo’s.  The L3-37 fits snugly into the main model but can be detached and flown separately.  Both Lando Calrissian and Han Solo are capable pilots, each providing different capabilities to the Millennium Falcon.  Han is also a capable gunner who can focus his shots when in the gunner position.  Chewbacca is here, too, as are numerous upgrades for the ship.  The Millennium Falcon is truly a gambler’s ship with plenty of tricks up its sleeve.  Learn more about Lando’s Millennium Falcon at Fantasy Flight Games.  Look for Lando’s Millennium Falcon blasting out of spaceports on September 13th.

Fantasy Flight keeps rolling out expansions to grow armies for Star Wars: Legion.  Earlier this spring, Fantasy Flight announced the release of fan favorite Han Solo along with a squad of Rebel Commandos.  It was only a matter of time before Han’s arch nemesis, Boba Fett would be released into the fray.

The Boba Fett Operative Expansion introduces a new unit type to the game: the operative.  Each army can have up to two operatives which are paired with one or two unit commanders.  Commanders not only have command of Boba Fett but they also have access to an assortment of armaments carried by the resourceful bounty hunter. Armed with both an E-3 Carbine and wrist rockets, Boba Fett has plenty of gadgets up his sleeve, such as spiked boots and his Whipcord Launcher that not only pins the enemy down but also grants him an opportunity to quickly move across the battlefield.  Boba Fett is a dangerous and highly mobile force on the battlefield and can quickly expose weaknesses in the Rebel forces.

The Imperial Force’s elite unit, the Scout Troopers, adds even more versatility to the Empire.   The Scout Troopers Unit Expansion provides the Imperial Force seven Scout Troopers that can be deployed in two-man strike teams or as a standard squad armed with specialized weapons.  Mobile and stealthy, the Scout Troopers carry a lethal mix of firepower.

Both the Scout Troopers Unit Expansion and the Boba Fett Operative Expansion are expected to be released in third quarter of 2018.  Rebel Forces have only until then before the Empire’s elite units arrive on the battlefield.  Visit Fantasy Flight’s website to learn more about these expansions and future Star Wars: Legion announcements.
