Those who love train games are quite spoiled for choice already, but it’s not everyday that we get to cover one that is made by and for a major US city. EL: The Chicago Transit Adventure is designed by Transit Tees, an official merchandiser of the Chicago Transit Authority, and it’s produced in the midwest as well. The game features a painstakingly accurate map of the city’s elevated train system with it’s various interconnecting bus routes and challenges players to be the fastest to make it to all the destinations in their hand. Various events, such as baseball games, festivals, holidays, and pigeon swarms delay or hasten certain routes, so careful planning and a bit of luck is key.
“It riffs on the joys and travails all CTA riders are quick to relate to, and the featured landmarks—such as the Art Institute of Chicago, Garfield Park Conservatory, Wrigley Field and the Bahá’í Temple—help orient travelers and promote Chicago’s world-renowned public transit system. In addition to train lines, EL players can make use of bus transfers between trains to strategically reach their destinations faster.”
This isn’t the first game produced for the Chicago Transit Authority, actually. Their first was called LOOP: The Elevated Card Game, a matching game similar to UNO but instead of matching colors and numbers you match lines or stations in order to keep travel moving. EL is a family weight game as well, to be sure, but definitely has more to show and love with it’s detailed map and relate-able premise. For those interested in learning more about EL, it will be available for preorder here, with the first orders available November 25th, and it will be proudly displayed in both Transit Tees stores shortly before that.

Fantasy Flight Games is ramping up for the release of Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game, a new game set in the Warhammer Fantasy universe and based on the classic adventure board game, Warhammer Quest. While we anticipate its release, FFG has, as is their custom, been releasing a steady flow of helpful information concerning the details of gameplay.
In the latest update on the game, FFG explains the rewards that can be attained in a dungeon delve in the game, including dungeon cards, gear, and upgraded action cards.
Dungeon Cards can be discovered as players explore that various locations throughout the dungeon, and include two different types of card: events and items. Events can be a positive or a negative experience for the players, allowing them to interact with a Shrine for special bonuses, or they can be beset by an ambush from hostile creatures.
Gear includes weapons, armor, and accessories that heroes can use to strengthen themselves in order to be more successful in the mission. Players begin a campaign with only one slot for gear, but can increase this capacity as they improve. Gear can also be carried over from mission to mission.
Each hero has four basic Action Cards, which can be upgraded throughout their adventures. These upgraded action cards can make each ability more powerful and effective.
For more information on these rewards attainable in the game see the article here, or for more information on Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game in general, please see the game page here.Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game is set to release in November 2015.
The classic fantasy epic Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien can be experienced in a very immersive way in Ares Games’ War of the Ring, an epic board game in which players can play through Tolkien’s grand saga as they take on the roles of either the Free People of Middle Earth or The Shadow (forces of Sauron). To date, War of the Ring has had only one smaller expansion, Lords of Middle Earth, but now Ares Games has announced a second expansion for the game, Warriors of Middle Earth.
In the core game, many additional characters appear other than the Free Peoples and the armies of the Shadow, but have not been “playable.” Now, this new expansion will include Ents, Dead Men of Dunharrow, Great Eagles of the Misty Mountains, Corsairs of Umbar, Wild Hilmen from Dunland, and Giant Spiders. Each of these character and creature groups will feature miniatures and special abilities.
In Warriors of Middle Earth, new game mechanisms will be introduced to the game, including Faction Dice and Faction Events. As in the core game and first expansion, Warriors of Middle Earth will be illustrated by John Howe. This new expansion is set for release in the Q4 of 2015, in or around November.
