The One Night series from Bezier Games continues to go strong with the last entry being One Night Ultimate Alien.  This time around instead of aliens, or vampires, or werewolves, you are trying to out the super villains in your midst in One Night Ultimate Super Villains.  But you aren’t just any ordinary citizens, you are members of SCOOP, the Super Club Of Overt Powers, and so you have your own abilities that will help you discover them.  Expect lots of chaos and fun in this new version, with art by Gus Batts and app narration by the talented Eric Summerer.

You can find out more information from the press release below, and look for the launch of the Kickstarter in July and it to hit stores before 2018 ends.

Louisville, TN – June 18, 2018Today Bézier Games announced One Night Ultimate Super Villains, a new standalone game in the One Night series.
Unbeknownst to the citizens of Shady Grove, USA, a battle is brewing while they sleep. The most powerful heroes the world has ever known have converged to stop an onslaught of malicious super villains. The trouble is, these nefarious criminals are hiding in plain sight as residents of Shady Grove, so the heroes first have to find these treacherous evil-doers before it’s too late…
In One Night Ultimate Super Villains™, players take on the roles of heroes or villains, each with amazing superpowers that help further their cause. The vile trio of Rapscallion, Dr. Peeker, and Henchman #7 are intent on getting away with their crimes, while the members of the Super Club Of Overt Powers (SCOOP), are all out to catch them. Shady Grove… maybe even the world… will never be the same.

While the free companion app is not required, it provides amazing narration from Eric Summerer that guides players through the night phase of the game. Super Villains features artwork from One Night artist Gus Batts, done in the classic 90’s Cartoon Network™ style.
One Night Ultimate Super Villains will initially launch on Kickstarter on Monday, July 30th, and will ship before the end of 2018.

Acram Digital has announced they are looking for beta testers for the digital port of the board game Istanbul. Acram has teased that the game is coming in Q2 2018 and is seeking beta testers now. Those interested can find more information on how to join the playtest here.

The game is currently in development for PC/Mac/Linux, Android and iOS systems. Digital features of the game will include:

  • official, digital version of Istanbul board game
  • optimized for PC, smartphones and tablets
  • play with AI, with friends or both
  • pass and play mode
  • online multiplayer with asynchronous mode option
  • modular board
  • official rules plus extra additions
When the app is released players will no longer have to gather around the same table to enjoy the merchant life, but instead will be thrust into the usual day in this city market via their favorite digital device.
Hustle and bustle in the bazaar district of Istanbul: merchants and their assistants are hurrying through the narrow alleys attempting to be more successful than their competitors. Good organization is key: wheelbarrows have to be filled with goods at the warehouses and then swiftly transported by the assistants to the various destinations. The goal of the merchants is to be the first to collect a certain amount of rubies.

In the game players will take on the role of merchants with their four assistants roaming through the 16 bazaar locations. Each location allows players to leave an assistant behind to take a specific action, returning later to pick up the assistant. When a merchant has finally collected five rubies in his wheelbarrow all players will complete the round to end the game. If the player who ended the game has completed their goal they will be declared the winner, otherwise ties will be broken by money still in hand.

The original board game, released in 2014, was the winner of numerous awards including the coveted Kennerspiel des Jahres. Awards included:

Eric Summerer (with Noah and Evan) Teaches us some Tips

If you are wondering how Stuffed Fables plays with young children, Plaid Hat Games has enlisted Eric Summerer and his sons to provide an answer in a new video.

In Stuffed Fables, players take on the role of stuffed toys that have been drawn into the Fall, a dark realm ruled by a master of nightmares.  This storyboard adventure game is designed for 2-4 players, ages 7 and up, to be played in 60-90 minutes.

In the video, Eric provides some tips on playing Stuffed Fables with children as young as five.  His sons Evan and Noah share their experiences and reactions to the game, and Eric demonstrates his tips during gameplay.  Eric’s tips will help ensure you and young children have an enjoyable game of Stuffed Fables.

Eric Summerer previously provided a rules overview over on youtube.

If Eric’s voice on the video seems familiar it may be because you’ve listened to some of the hundreds of audiobooks and other voiceover projects Mr. Summerer has worked on.

Stuffed Fables, designed by Jerry Hawthorne, will be available February 1st.

IMAG0805Day two started out fresh, having rested and recouped from an exciting day 1. The Dice Tower crew grouped up to start a very busy day. I had the pleasure of getting to visit with Chaz Marler from Pair of Dice Paradise. Many of you know Chaz from either his board game reviews or his Board Game Breakfast segment (Head in the Clouds with Chaz Marler). I’m here to tell ya, he’s a great guy, a hard worker, and just a ton of fun to hang around.

Upon entering the convention, I had the pleasure of meeting up with Patrick Nickell, owner of Crash Games. Patrick is well known in the board game community and just a great guy. He’s located at booth 2828 and is demoing several games in his line-up, including his newest release, Dead Drop. You can learn more about the successfully Kickstarted game here. I personally own a copy of Yardmaster and it’s one of the few games I can get my wife to play with me.

mysterium
One of the hardest games to get your hand on over at the Asmodee booth is Mysterium. Mysterium is an English version of the Polish game Tajemnicze Domostwo. It’s a cooperative game where one player takes on the role of a Ghost trying to describe where he/she was murdered via giving out various clues while others try to deduce the location – all done via Dixit-style cards. It’s a gorgeous game and their demo booth is a must grab for anyone remotely interested in the game.

Another game that had a TON of hype around the convention was Pretzel Games’ fun dexterity game, Flick ’em Up. Pictured above is the upcoming expansion, Stallion Canyon, which features ramps, horses and about 5 new scenarios. Players will have to rope in wild horses using a lasso and then use those horses in further scenarios. Keep your eyes on this one, it’s sure to add to the fun of the base game.

A huge hit at the Arcane Wonders booth was Board Game Theatre’s Kevin and Matti in their Sheriff of Nottingham regalia. Come by Arcane Wonders’ booth at 1:30 to get a look!!

Don’t forget to come by the Dice Tower booth, located at booth 3030. You can pick up a free fortune cookie and Dice Tower badge sticker. Stop by at 10am to meet Tom, Eric, Zee, and Sam!! There’s still plenty of promos left including 3 Mage Wars, 2 Sheriff of Notthingham, Spyfall, Robinson Crusoe, Core Worlds, and Nothing personal promo packs. We have t-shirts, dice towers, various dice and the Arcadia Quest Tomrick mini If nothing else, stop by to say hi!

IMAG0772

So the Dice Tower kicked Day 1 off with a bang. For those not familiar with the early mornings of the convention, the doors open to exhibitors at 8am followed, on day 1, to the VIPs at 9am. 10 o’clock welcomes the masses. Mysterium, from Asmodee, seemed to be the big hit- having sold out before 9:20.

IMAG0776One of the big hits was the display of upcoming Mice & Mystics product line games – Tail Feathers. Jerry Hawthorne, designer, was demoing the unique tilt mechanism used for the flying birds. In this sky and land battle game the birds will actually have removable “flyer” minis. Tail Feathers will hopefully be released sometime around, if not at, Essen.

IMAG0792

One of my favorite parts of the day was getting to meet the folks over at NSKN. I got to meet with Agnieszka Kopera and Andrei Novac (Designer and Artist along with founders of NSKN) to get a look at the HUGE BOX expansion to Exodus entitled Edge of Extinction. It’s a GORGEOUS expansion to an already wonderful game. You can watch Tom’s review of the revised edition of the base game here. And if that wasn’t already exciting enough, I got a sneak peak at only 1 of 2 copies of Mistfall – a cooperative adventure game hopefully due out at Essen. It’s got some top-notch components and features some beautiful artwork – tons of cards!!

Portal Games had quite a few releases this year including Rattle, Battle, & Loot – a fun, light-hearted pirate-themed game. Also available was the drafting game Tides of Time and the Imperial Settlers expansion Atlanteans.

IMAG0788Sure to be a hit, from Pretzel Games, is Flick ’em Up. In this scenario-driven game, you use dexterity to flick (shoot) opponents and move around the board. An expansion has already been announced that will add ramps and horses. You can watch Tom Vasel’s review here.

IMAG0791

Another fun stop was to the Chip Theory Games booth where they had, on display, their Hoplomachus line of products. I got to tell you, the chips are of a VERY high quality and the game play is quite fun. They had their, recently successful Kickstarter project, Origins on display.

IMAG0789

If you’re at the convention, don’t forget to visit the Dice Tower booth. Although located at the very back of the hall, it’s definitely been flooded with traffic. You can meet and greet the entire gang first thing in the morning(s). Stop by and pick up any of the various promos on display along with dice towers, t-shirts, play-mats, and tons of other memorabilia.
