Epic, 4X space games like Twilight Imperium: Fourth Edition are loved for their grandness and scale. However, even players who love 4X games (explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate) struggle to get them to the table because of their time commitment and complexity.
The Final Flicktier by Gabe Barrett is hoping to scratch that 4X itch in just an hour of gameplay while upping the fun factor by bringing in dexterity as you flick your spaceships (dice) throughout the galaxy.
The Final Flicktier is a 4X style space game with dice flicking at its core. Players will take on the role of unique factions all vying for control of the galaxy. They’ll flick their spaceships (dice) around the board in order to explore new planets, build structures, harvest resources, and attack other factions. The player with the most victory points at the end wins.
The game is easy to learn and emphasizes finesse flicking over brute strength. Two beautifully illustrated neoprene mats are your playing and flicking surfaces. The base game comes with four space faring factions. Each faction gets its own set of ships which are represented by different sided dice ranging from traditional D6 up to a D12.
Check out the live Kickstarter campaign and see if The Final Flicktier is a journey you are ready to embark upon.
EPIC is a two to four player card game by White Wizard games, makers of Star and Hero Realms, where you duke it out as gods to see who is the greatest. This game brings back the play and feel of trading card style games that have been around for years, but without the costly need of buying randomly packaged booster packs. EPIC comes ready to go out of the box, and only adds cards in an LCG style where each pack has the same cards as every other pack of the same name. Previous packs have added new characters you can play as called Tyrants, or just added new cards to the game in Uprising. Well now they are adding new characters to play as in the form of a Pantheon. The first of the two packs features Furios, Father Nature and Maligus, the Dark One, each coming with 12 cards and 3 token cards in the pack so you can play as either deity. Furios is revered by all in the forest, except for Maligus that is, and he seeks to overthrow Furios. But when Furios summons you to his defense, you obey.
The second features Helena, the Valiant and Zaltessa, the Huntress, each also with 12 cards and 3 token cards in the pack. Zaltessa will hunt anything and everything under the sun, includes the other gods, but Helena has the bravery and courage to stand up and hunt Zaltessa instead. Look for both of these packs to be on store shelves in January of 2018. You can click here for details on pre-ordering.

The classic fantasy epic Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien can be experienced in a very immersive way in Ares Games’ War of the Ring, an epic board game in which players can play through Tolkien’s grand saga as they take on the roles of either the Free People of Middle Earth or The Shadow (forces of Sauron). To date, War of the Ring has had only one smaller expansion, Lords of Middle Earth, but now Ares Games has announced a second expansion for the game, Warriors of Middle Earth.
In the core game, many additional characters appear other than the Free Peoples and the armies of the Shadow, but have not been “playable.” Now, this new expansion will include Ents, Dead Men of Dunharrow, Great Eagles of the Misty Mountains, Corsairs of Umbar, Wild Hilmen from Dunland, and Giant Spiders. Each of these character and creature groups will feature miniatures and special abilities.
In Warriors of Middle Earth, new game mechanisms will be introduced to the game, including Faction Dice and Faction Events. As in the core game and first expansion, Warriors of Middle Earth will be illustrated by John Howe. This new expansion is set for release in the Q4 of 2015, in or around November.

Rob Dougherty and Darwin Kastle and White Wizard Games, the creators of Star Realms, are now bringing to you another Kickstarter for a small-box card game: Epic. Don’t be deterred by the name – they actually thought of “Epic” in the name previously – this is a reimplementation of Epic Trading Card Game, made in 2009.
Epic is a fantasy card game for 2-4 players that provides draft, sealed, and constructed play right out of the box. In draft and sealed play, players get to choose cards to go into their decks out of a selection of cards. For constructed play, the box will come with 4 colors: yellow (good), red (evil), blue (sage), and green (wild) – each can be a pre-made deck. If you have played trading card games like Magic: The Gathering, you may be familiar with this type of game. But instead of being a trading card game, this game will be more like a Living Card Game (or Expandable Card Game) – you get all the cards in the box, and there are no random packs or rare cards. This makes the game much more affordable than Magic.
The gameplay for Epic is fast – games last around 20 minutes. In the game, each player has a 30 card deck and starts with 30 health. To win, you can reduce your opponents’ health to 0. What makes Epic unique is that you can play any card in your hand – you don’t need resources in order to play them. Instead, you get 1 gold each turn, and you choose which card to play with that gold (all cards either cost 1 or none). That’s what makes the game epic – you start out at full power!

Fantasy Flight Games announces the release of the latest boxed saga expansion for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, The Treason of Saruman. This expansion includes three new scenarios that take players on a journey through the first half of Tolkien’s epic novel, The Two Towers. These scenarios can be played individually, or as part of the ongoing campaign that began with the saga expansion The Black Riders.
Three new heroes are also included in this expansion, including a Fellowship sphere version of Aragorn. Additionally, the expansion includes thirty-three new player cards including new allies, events and attachments to each sphere. The popular Mount trait introduced in the Foundations of Stone expansion is continued with the inclusion of Shadowfax and Arod, the famous horses belonging to Gandalf and Legolas, respectively.
In The Treason of Saruman, players can enlist the aid of the ents, powerful allies that are not easy to recruit. The scenarios culminate in an encounter with Saruman himself, armed with the Saruman’s Staff artifact card and his innate Wizardry effect. Even if Saruman is defeated, his foul stench may remain with the players as they continue on their quest with the Saruman’s Voice treachery card.
This new saga expansion is currently available, and one can learn much more about the details of this new release on FFG’s website here.
